According to many experts, the cause of the situation that many commodities still keep their prices, anchored high even though gasoline and oil prices have decreased many times is because some items are affected by the impact of gasoline prices and delay so that production and business units, especially those whose products are directly affected by petrol and oil prices, have to review the cost-forming factors from there to determine the price. Selling price decreased in line with the recent drop in petrol prices.
Consumers choose to buy foods at a supermarket in Bien Hoa City.
Representatives of many supermarkets in the province said that packaged foods, cooking oil, monosodium glutamate, fish sauce, cosmetics, etc. are items that are affected by transportation costs and input materials and production costs, especially when fuel prices are high in recent times.
Currently, although the price of gasoline has decreased, it is still necessary to wait more time for the above-mentioned items to adjust the selling price because the supply contract is usually adjusted in about 30-40 days.
At an online seminar on the topic of petrol price reduce but commodities not decrease: the current situation and solutions organized by the Government portal on August 4, economist Can Van Luc agreed with point of view for the cyclical, the lag for prices in the market to decreases when gasoline and oil prices fall. However, he thinks there are still other reasons as well. Usually, businesses calculate the price of gasoline to decrease like that, assuming they immediately reduce the price of other related products, they are afraid that it will be extremely difficult to increase it later, civilians may object, not agree.
"I think it's cautious but not convincing enough, because it's clear that "the water goes up, the boat goes up, the water goes down, the boat goes down". I agree there is a delay, but it can't be months or months, but obviously after only a few weeks, we have to adjust it right away" - Mr. Can Van Luc emphasized.
Most consumers now "wait" for the price of many goods and services to decrease according to the price of gasoline, especially the cost of transportation, delivery, prices of foods ...
Mr. Hoang Vu (Long Binh Ward, Bien Hoa City) said that before the news that petrol and gas prices fell continuously, he expected the prices of goods and foodstuffs to decrease accordingly so that consumers would somewhat reduce costs. From the beginning of the year until now, the selling price of items "following" the price of gasoline is understandable because the cost of transportation through many stages of production and distribution to consumers will have to increase. “But now, the price of gasoline has decreased, but almost all businesses and units have increased the selling price of goods when gasoline has increased, but the resale price has not been reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to be fair with consumers when rebalancing prices, creating stable and long-term purchasing power when gasoline prices have "cooled down" – said Mr. Vu.
