According to the State Bank branch in Dong Nai Province, in the first six months of the year, outstanding loans in the agricultural sector and loans for rural construction reached over 76,400 billion, accounting for nearly 45% of total loans, higher than the end of 2017.
Over the past time, livestock production has encountered difficulties but investment in livestock still attracts capital. Investment models are also increasingly diversified, focusing on developing strong poultry; raising pigs from small to large scale livestock.
The output for the chicken industry is becoming more stable as it is exporting well. In picture: Chicken slaughter line at Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd (Bien Hoa City), a chicken exporter to the Japanese market.
* Diversification of investment
Mr. Huynh Tan Chu, a farmer from Xuan Lap Commune (Long Khanh Town), said: “Previously, I invested a pig farm of hundreds of pigs, but now I have left the farm to focus on developing orchards with the varieties that the market is fond of. Recently, pig prices have risen back but I did not repopulate, but decided to spend the money to replicate the green-skin grapefruit garden”.
Talking about the recently change in agricultural investment, Chairman of Trang Bom Farmers Union, Mr. Nguyen Van Son commented: "Currently, small scale pig farming is decreasing. Leaving pigs, gardeners focus on investing in citrus fruit, red dragon fruit…”. According to Son, as banks are active in agricultural loans, farmers are much more favorable in accessing loans to transform for production. Farmers' Fund has also disbursed 2 projects of cooperative groups to convert green-skin grapefruit, citrus fruits... with the loan of billions of VND.
In the first 6 months of 2018, the production value of the fishery sector reached nearly VND 962 billion, increased nearly 6% over the same period, reaching much higher growth rate than that of plant cultivation and animal husbandry. This is also the industry which is attracting large capital investment. The province has planned the aquaculture areas of high technology as encouraging both farmers and businesses to invest capital. In which, brackish water aquaculture in industrially oriented and high technology application is leading the profit.
The Technical Director of Aquaculture Division of CP Vietnam Livestock JSC, Mr. Banchong Buahung, said: “At present, the market potential for shrimp and brackish water aquaculture is very high because of the inadequate supply of both domestic and export markets”. Currently, CP has many policies to support farmers to switch to shrimp farming using bottoming tarpaulin technology. Although this model requires much higher investment capital compared to traditional farming methods, the profit increases very clearly and farmers' risks are reduced.
* Livestock still attracts capital
After the pork market crisis, pig farmers went bankrupt and stop raising pigs. However, this sector is still experiencing high growth. Ngo Thanh Tung, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Thong Nhat district, said that many pig farmers lost their land use certificates because of losses. But capital is still mainly used for livestock and there are structural changes. “In the past, pig farms only accounted for 10% of the total stock, but now it is up to 30% of the total. The total of poultry in the district increased sharply. In particular, the industrial duck and chicken farming models have developed. Many models of raising "special" species have been invested in, such as raising herbal chicken, raising organic chicken from natural food sources such as rainworms, bugs...”, said Mr. Tung.
On the movement of local racing to raise chicken, Mr. Tran Anh Tung, farmer in the "capital" of raising chicken in Binh Son Commune (Long Thanh District) compared: “From the end of last year up to now, chicken breeders always have fever because of the inadequate supply. The chicken farming campaign is ramping up everywhere for good profit. However, raising by the movement has a lot of risks in terms of output and control of diseases.”
Particularly, the chicken industry is developing quite sustainably. Le Van Quyet, Vice Chairman of the Association of South East Poultry Breeding, analyzed: “Over the past time, the total number of industrial chickens in Dong Nai province has grown steadily, but not by the people who invested in the movement but as the base on market to grow. Farmers also actively invest in technology, improve the breeding process to the most competitive price. It is expected that in the coming time, the output of chickens for export to the Japanese market will more than double now. This is not a small advantage to encourage farmers to join the chain for a sustainable output.”
