Representative of Nestlé Corporation (coffee processing plant at Amata Industrial Zone, Bien Hoa city) said the company is coordinating with Switzerland Development & Cooperation (SDC) to sponsor 2 million euro and EDE Consulting Company (Germany) to implement programs of support the effective water management for 50 thousand coffee growers in the Central Highlands. This program contributes to solve the water shortage due to natural disasters, climate change and uneffective cultivation techniques.
The project for rational water usage in order to improve the economic efficiency of the coffee industry in Vietnam has been implemented since April -2015, and will last until 2019.
According to the plan of the project, in 2015, 30 trainers, 2,000 farmers will be trained and ther wiil be the establishment of six pilot models on sustainable coffee production, applying rational water management for each province in the project area. According to experts, the coffee growers currently use an average of 700 to 1,000 liters of water to irrigate the coffee trees, while the amount of water for coffee output is justequivalent to 300-400 liters.
