Department of Natural Resources and Environment regularly collaborates with functional agencies in conducting inspection and exercising supervision towards approximately 748,980 tons of general solid wastes per year, 664.300 tons of which are collected, representing 88.7 percent.
Particularly, wastes through a sanitary treatment process account for 25 percent.
100 percent of medical wastes or 2,051 tons go through a treatment process.
Among 38,314 tons of registered hazardous wastes per year, 23,371 tons are collected and treated, accounting for 61 percent and reaching the target set in Dong Nai People’s Committee’s resolution.

Last year, Department of Natural Resources and Environment focused on inspection, and classification of wastes according to Circular no.07/2007/TT-BTNMT by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as follows:
- Inspecting 187 manufacturing facilities and re-inspecting 84 classified facilities in 2009.
- Classifying and listing 14 pollution-prone facilities. Consequently, severe pollution-prone facilities account for 7.4 percent, down by 6 percent against 2009.
- Granting certificates of pollution-tackling completion to 20 classified facilities in 2009, thereby showing that businesses have gradually been aware of how to obey law and protect environment.
Department of Natural Resources and Environment also established a committee to verify and approve the reports made to evaluate 45 projects’ environmental impact, accounting for 180 percent, as much as 132 percent compared with the same period 2009 according to year plans.
The Department evaluated and issued 536 hazardous waste management registration certificates, accounting for 268 percent, up 177 percent compared with 2009, according to year plans.
The Department evaluated 14 forms that request to have discarded material imported as materials for production, inspecting and checking and taking over 30 manufacturers’ wastewater treatment systems.
Overall, environmental management and protection have been done more and more effectively.
Media activities to help raise the public awareness of environmental protection have widely been made known to people, which attracts the participation of many unions and communities.
The important areas in need of environmental protection such as urban and
industrial areas have been under inspection and control, which results in basic
environmental improvement in several hot locations.
