Scientific research on anti domestic violence checked and taken over

In the past time, Dong Nai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism checked and took over the scientific research “Surveying real situation of domestic violence and proposing solutions for domestic violence prevention and control in Dong Nai province” which headed by Luu Thi Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of CST.

Boosting information dissemination to reduce domestic violence

 

This study has been carried out since 2008 with the aims at assessing the real situation of domestic violence and finding out solutions for domestic violence prevention and control. The research had worked on 5,000 questionnaires answered by adults, children, and grassroots employees in the province. The research pointed out that most of public employees had well awarded of domestic violence as well as the importance of domestic violence prevention (97%); Domestic violence are caused by husbands via insulting women and hurting the human dignity of women (over 50%); and 54.27% of parents sometimes beat their children. Domestic violence has caused heavy consequences for society including physical health vulnerability (39.09%), mental vulnerability (41.98%), divorce (34.32%), legal separation (30.78%), children quit school early (20.03%), involving in social evils (11.54%), property loss (10.27%) and possible causing death (8.54%). The main reasons leading to domestic violence are: declining the family income, poverty, alcoholism, and low level of education and traditional views of men as the undisputed heads of the household.

    Based on the research results, the authors had suggested solutions for family violence prevention and control such as: promoting propaganda tasks to improve public awareness and attitude of domestic violence; coordinating with concerned units to disseminate knowledge of domestic violence; building models to prevent and control family violence, and organizing activities for families to exchange experience and learn knowledge of domestic violence prevention, etc.

   The research had been checked and taken over by the scientific council.
