Offering pair of giant Banh Tet held at Tran Bien Cultural Temple.

In the evening of January 9th, a ceremony to offers a pair of giant Banh Tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake filled with green bean paste and pork) to ancestors was held at Tran Bien Cultural Temple.

Banh-Tet Attending at the ceremony was Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Phuong.

The pair of giant Banh Tet made by staffs of Dam Sen Park in HCM city creates a new entry in Vietnam Guinness Book of Records for their great weight and heaviness. Banh Tet is indispensable food in households in the South during the Lunar New Year. To make these giant cakes, up to 750 kg of glutinous rice, 100 kg of green beans, 70 kg of pork and 400 kg of banana leaves were used.

About 20 people have been mobilized to make the cakes with diameters of 0.8 metres and lengths of 3.5 metres. The total weight of each cake is about two tons. These two cakes are displayed during the Consumer Goods-Trade Fair, which is taken place from January 9th to 15th, 2006, so as to serve customers in the fair.
