Presently, the Dong Nai branch of Vietnam Folklore Association has 25 members, of which 7 are official members of Vietnam Folklore Association including the newly admitted one. “Mr. Tran Viet Binh is a special member. He joined the Vietnam Music Association when he was very young. Now, at his old ages he is admitted Vietnam Folklore Association. His contribution to the association is uncountable. He has a precious collection of 91 folk-songs composed by ethnic minorities such as Ma, S’Tieng and Choro. But the most significant thing is that he has recorded these songs in form of Karaoke so as to popularize and teach them to the young. It’s a job that’s worth studying because researching and collecting is not strong enough to get the young loved and singed them. As a result, we will find it hard to preserve them”, spoke at the ceremony, Dr. Huynh Van Toi, head of the Dong Nai branch of Vietnam Folklore Association.

Mr. Tran Viet Binh has worked on this field for over 50 years. About 20 years ago, he wrote many songs to condemn the corruption. These songs are much beloved by the youth of Dong Nai province. He is famous for the song called “Dong Nai in the durian season”. “To me, time is now very very short but I have a lot of works to be done. So, I will use the rest of my time to fulfill them. Especially, I will try to finish my researches on folksong of K’ho people so as to perfect the collection of folksongs of the four ethnic groups living in Dong Nai, my second hometown”, said with deep emotion, Mr. Tran Viet Binh.
