Job training and resources for unemployed workers

According to the provincial Employment Service Center, to help unemployed workers learn vocational training and those wishing to change careers, over the past time, the center has continuously opened vocational classes in the evenings and weekends with the main occupations such as industrial sewing, repairing sewing equipment, welding mechanics, metal cutting, informatics, industrial electricity, automotive and household electrical, informatics, English and Japanese language courses.

 


In addition, the Center also coordinates with vocational schools to teach cooking, makeup, flower arranging, baking, batender-barista, aesthetic, driving, etc., to meet the vocational training needs of employees.​

Meaningful classes

 

Ms. Nguyen Hai Yen, a trainee who is studying sewing at the Provincial Employment Service Center, said that she used to work for an enterprise producing garment accessories in Bien Hoa City. At the end of March, that businesses laid off workers due to unfavorable business, lack of orders due to the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic, so she had to quit her job. After completing the procedures for enjoying unemployment insurance, she gets vocational training counselors to look for new jobs. Accordingly, she chose to study sewing and now has learned nearly 4 months.

 

According to Yen, the sewing vocational class has more than 20 students, most of them unemployed due to the effects of the COVID-19 epidemic. In the classroom, she was guided by teachers in detail, from theory to practice of sewing on the machine. “I think the class is very necessary and meaningful for unemployed workers. Just learned in less than 4 months, I was able to cut and sew some fashion products for myself. After this vocational class, I intend to apply for a job at a garment company. I think, during your time off, you should register for vocational training to improve your knowledge and skills.” – said Ms. Yen.

 

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, who worked at TaeKwang Vina Industrial Joint Stock Company (Bien Hoa City) decided to quit her job in April to open a small business. However, her business intentions coincided with the complicated COVID-19 epidemic, so she had to stop. In order to be skilled in serving her business, Hue has come to the center to register for a cooking apprenticeship.

 

Ms. Hue said, after finishing the training course and being granted a vocational certificate, she will be more confident when opening a small breakfast store. “Although the class is held in the evenings and on weekends, the participants attend very regularly, learning a lot of experience and skills in preparing dishes. I feel very pleased to join this meaningful class for the benefits of the profession” - Ms. Hue shared.

 

Expanding in many industries

 

Deputy Director of the Provincial Employment Service Center of Tran Thi Thuy Tram said, along with paying unemployment insurance benefits to employees when losing jobs, consultancy, vocational training support and job placement for unemployed workers are significant activities of the unemployment insurance policy, which help workers quickly find get a job, especially hard times after a pandemic. This is considered a positive, long-term solution to remove difficulties for employees, help them stabilize their lives and ensure social security in the locality.

 

According to Mrs. Tram, on each month, the Center arranges counselors directly at the place of registration of unemployment insurance, creating favorable conditions for unemployed workers to find jobs and learn vocational training. Through activities such as consulting, capturing vocational training needs of employees, the Center has provided sufficient information on vocational training institutions, types of vocational training, training duration and training costs for unemployed workers. Along with that, there are also job counseling, job placement for unemployed people after finishing vocational training courses.

 

Currently, the Center is providing vocational training for over 200 unemployed laborers. Through these classes, it helps to improve the skills and qualifications so that employees can easily find new jobs and 'live' by their chosen profession. In particular, employees after apprenticeship for 3-6 months will be granted a primary vocational certificate. Funding for vocational training support is VND 1 million/month (not exceeding 6 months). Unemployed employees who are eligible for vocational training support need to take advantage of this time to learn vocational skills, meeting the high demands of enterprises.​
