A child with severe pneumonia is being treated at Dong Nai Children's Hospital

Dr. Tran Le Duy Cuong, Deputy Head of the Intensive Care Unit, Dong Nai Children's Hospital, said that most of the children are from 1 month to 3 years old. Some children have underlying illnesses, fever, cough, excessive phlegm, difficulty breathing, pneumonia. There are cases in the kindergarten with fever and cough, the family went to a private doctor to get medicine and couldn't take it. They were hospitalized in a state of fatigue, exertion, and decreased oxygen in the blood. The doctor had to intubate the baby, put the baby on a ventilator, and take antibiotics to reduce pneumonia.

Recently, the hospital received 11-month-old child N.T.H.Y., hospitalized with severe pneumonia with pneumothorax. The doctor must support the patient to breathe with an oxygen mask, aspirate air from the pleura to the outside, and receive active antibiotic treatment.

According to doctors, the cause of the increase in the number of patients with pneumonia in particular and respiratory diseases in general in the age group from 1 month to 3 years old is because at this age, children have weak resistance. Now that we have entered the rainy season, the cold weather can easily lead to fever and cough. If parents do not treat the child's disease correctly, it will make the disease worse, more pneumonia.

In addition, there is a group of children with severe pneumonia caused by staphylococci, which easily causes lung necrosis, leading to pneumothorax, causing severe illness, sepsis and life-threatening to the baby.

To prevent respiratory diseases in children, Dr. Cuong recommends, parents need to keep the baby warm when the rainy season comes, to avoid letting the baby get contaminated with rain water. If the baby has symptoms of the disease, cannot eat, is tired, and sleeps, it should be taken to a pediatric hospital for testing. If the child does not eat, is tired, sleeps, then take him to the hospital early to avoid serious illness affecting the health and life of the child.
