Better serve the business’ demands

Being in the top 5 provinces and cities leading the country in economic development for many years in a row, Dong Nai is still maximizing its strengths in attracting investment with a plan to convert thousands of hectares of agricultural land into land for industrial, service, urban development in which Long Thanh International Airport project is expected to complete the construction phase 1 by 2025.

According to Dong Nai Customs Department, it is currently managing 2 Inland Container Depots (ICD), 23 bonded warehouses and more than 20 general commercial ports, a specialized port that allows domestic and international ships to anchor and loading cargo. Dong Nai Customs Department currently has 10 customs clearance locations belonging to 7 customs branches outside the border gate, so it is difficult to serve economic development and import-export activities of enterprises in the area, increasing costs due to the transportation of goods to border gates, has not yet maximized the advantages of the international seaport system and river port, ICD. That poses a requirement for the Dong Nai Customs Department to deploy the customs apparatus according to the organizational model of the Border Gate Customs Sub-Department (also known as the Seaport Customs Sub-Department).

The establishment of the Border Gate Customs Sub-Department is expected to increase the capacity of warehousing and transportation of import and export goods to about 30%. To meet the needs of import-export businesses, the Customs sector as well as Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (Dong Nai Port) have upgraded and expanded the scale of seaport infrastructure for many months, ensuring the circulation of goods timely, without causing congestion.

Reduce shipping time and costs

Mr. Nguyen Van Ban, Director of Logistics, Dong Nai Port said, normally, it will take about 1 month for an import-export shipment to arrive in Vietnam. Therefore, in order to receive timely shipments to Dong Nai Port in October, Dong Nai Port sent information to import-export enterprises and shipping lines very soon. In order to smooth customs clearance and transport of goods, Dong Nai Port has cooperated with the Customs sector to organize intensive training sessions on customs, checking and supporting customers for new items.

When Border Gate Customs Sub-Department established, the port is allowed to receive some items that are required to go through procedures at the border-gate customs, so the volume of goods is forecasted to increase by about 30% compared to before. Mr. Ban said that Border Gate Customs Sub-Department will help businesses in Dong Nai as well as some other provinces and cities to directly import items that were not possible before to Dong Nai Port, significantly reducing transportation costs, at the same time reducing human resources as well as the pressure of traffic jams, incurring costs for businesses. To attract and meet the needs of customers, Dong Nai Port has invested in more berths to increase the capacity of receiving, loading and unloading goods at Go Dau and Long Binh Tan Ports.
