On the morning of March 17, the provincial People’s Committee held a ceremony to launch “The 11th national week of labor safety and hygiene – fire safety in 2009” campaign.

    The subject of the ceremony was to raise the awareness of responsibility and law obedience of the organizations, individuals and all the society of labor safety and hygiene – fire safety. This national week was organized and welcomed to raise public awareness, especially the employers and employees’ awareness of roles and responsibility towards production safety. Through this week, it will help improve working conditions and reduce the number of accidents at work, occupational hazards and fires, which contributes to the steady growth of the economy and society.

    In 2008, there were 1,699 accidents at work (including 28 fatalities), 66 fires and 12 explosions. The main cause was due to the objectivity and irresponsibility of both employers and employees during the process of working and operating on machines.

    Delivering the address at the ceremony, the President of Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Deputy Chief of the “National week of labor safety and hygiene – fire safety” campaign said that all levels, sectors, local authorities, businesses and people in the province should, with seriousness and self-awareness, comply with the state regulations of labor safety and measures aimed at safety at work, hygiene and fire and explosion safety at work, during production and on duty for everybody’s life, health and happiness.

    On this occasion, the steering committee praised 50 collectives and individuals for their great achievements in labor safety and hygiene – fire safety in 2008. Police office of preventing and fighting fire has collaborated with many businesses to welcome the week and reserve five places for fire drills in order to promote the propagation of and raise the awareness of labor safety and hygiene – fire safety among the public.
