According to the experts, the vaccine is an effective "shield" against the entry of the SARS-CoV-2 virus but does not completely protect the patient. There are many reasons leading to many cases of the people who have fully injected 02 doses of the vaccine, are still infected with Covid-19 epidemic and are been a source of infection for others. Therefore, according to the recommendations of professional agencies, the people still have to strictly implement the 5K principle after vaccination.
* Could be infected with Covid-19 even vaccinated
Vaccination is one of the proactive measures in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, which is being implemented in many provinces and cities across the country, including Dong Nai Province, in order to significantly reduce the risk of infection and serious illness leading to death from Covid-19.
So far, Vietnam has not had the statistics on the number of people infected with Covid-19 epidemic after vaccination against the Covid-19 epidemic. Currently, only the health sector has been able to count the number of health staffs infected with Covid-19 epidemic when participating in the epidemic prevention and control such as tracing, sampling, testing, vaccination, care and treatment of the F0 cases, etc.
According to the announcement of the Vietnam Health Trade Union (Ministry of Health), as of August 26, the entire health sector in the country had nearly 2.4 thousand health staffs infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus, in which 03 cases were died. Particularly for the Dong Nai Province’s health sector, as of August 30, there were nearly 100 cases of medical staffs being infected, in which many cases were vaccinated with 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. In particular, one hospital in the province had up to 42 medical staffs infected with Covid-19 epidemic. Most medical staffs who have injected the Covid-19 vaccine have mild illness with no symptoms. Many people after being cured have volunteered to examine and treat the F0 patients at Covid-19 treatment units in the area.
Recently, dozens of the people in a residential area near the Tan Mai Market (in the Residential Zone No. 4, Tan Mai Ward, Bien Hoa City) have been infected with Covid-19 epidemic, in which there have been vaccinated 1st dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
According to the Leaders of the People's Committee of Tan Mai Ward, many people in this area are still subjective because they think they are in the "green zone", so they are negligent and do not strictly comply with the 5K principle as well as the regulations on distance and isolation of this house with another houses. In the afternoons, many people still comfortably went to the yard, went to the neighbor's house to chat, etc. leading to the spread of the epidemic.
A resident in the Residential Zone No.4, Tan Mai Ward said that she had been injected the 1st dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, still adhered to the 5K principle and only gone out to the street when buying the food. However, because her neighbors often come over to visit and chat, she is likely to be infected the epidemic from these people. Fortunately, thanking to the vaccine, she only had a mild illness without symptoms. At present, she is always vigilant, especially not to contact other people when not being really necessary.
* Do not ignore the measures of epidemic prevention and control
Talking about the above situation, the Deputy Director of the Department of Health, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tai shared, so far, there has been no vaccine that is 100% effective in preventing the epidemic. The effectiveness of the vaccine also depends on the natural disposition of the person being injected. After vaccination, each person will create the different immunity depending on the body's response. Some people are more, some people are less. Therefore, in spite of being injected a full doses of the vaccine, the people who do not respond to the vaccine can still be infected. Moreover, the SARS-CoV-2 virus is a new virus strain with a capacity of mutating into different strains, so it takes time to research and further evaluate the ability to produce the antibodies in each of these vaccines.
Analyzing this issue more closely, on the website of the General Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), Assoc. Prof-Dr. Tran Dac Phu, Former Director of the General Department of Preventive Medicine, Advisor to the Viet Nam Public Health Emergency Operations Center, wrote an article explaining the cause of this situation.
Assoc. Prof-Dr. Tran Dac Phu affirmed that vaccination against Covid-19 is still very necessary and is the most basic solution in the current epidemic prevention and control. However, Associate Professor-Dr. Tran Dac Phu also said that after vaccination, there is still a possibility of infection with Covid-19. Because in fact, there are vaccines with 90% of protection effectiveness, but there are also vaccines with protection effectiveness of only about 50 - 60%. This means that some people who have been vaccinated can still carry the virus and infect others. Therefore, after vaccination against the Covid-19 epidemic, if the infection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has not been prevented, it will also reduce the severity and death of vaccinated people.
Assoc. Prof-Dr. Tran Dac Phu also pointed out that the cause of infection after vaccinating is that the time of vaccination with the 1st dose has not been enough 14 days, so it cannot provide the immediate protection because the body has not yet produced enough antibodies in order to prevent the growth of viruses. Moreover, the level of protection after the 1st dose of vaccine is only very low, so the person who has been injected the 1st dose of vaccine has a higher chance of infection than the person who has been injected a full doses of vaccine. After injecting the 2nd dose of vaccine has been one month, the vaccine has achieved the optimal protection with the protective effect at 60 - 90% depending on the type of vaccine. "Everyone should still get a Covid-19 vaccine when it's his or her turn, you can choose any of the vaccines that have been currently licensed for circulation by the Ministry of Health. In particular, after vaccinating, even with a full doses of vaccine, it is still necessary to fully implement the epidemic prevention measures, especially the 5K principle whenever you go out," - Assoc. Prof-Dr. Tran Dac Phu said.
