Launch of development plan for Southern key economic zone

​Ministry of Planning - Investment announced development plan for Southern Key Economic Zone (Southern KEZ) and Mekong River Delta Key Economic Zone in the upcoming time in pursuant to Decision no.245 and no.252/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. 


​Accordingly, the Southern KEZ includes the Ho Chi Minh City as the core center and such provinces as: Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Tien Giang. This is a dynamic economic zone with high and sustainable growth rate, a leader in the industrialization, modernization and economic development of the whole country. The Southern KEZ will pursue the main objectives: GDP growth rate of 8 - 8.5 percent in the period from 2011 to 2015; 8.5 – 9 percent in the period from 2015 to 2020 and a vision towards 2030, of which industry and service sector accounts for 95-96% of GDP.

In terms of investment attraction, high-technology-contained projects will be prioritized; human resource development center is targeted to be established to serve the Research and Development Purpose of high technology industries. In addition, such key projects as Long Thanh international airport, relocation of Ho Chi Minh City Port System, upgrade of highways network, construction of Ba Ria - Vung Tau port for large load ships to come in. With regard to urban development, Ho Chi Minh is the core center and neighboring urban will be developed in the model of industry-service based urban area. In particular, high-technology-contained urban area in Bien Hoa, Long Thanh (of Dong Nai province); Thu Dau Mot, Phu My New City, Urban Service Complex in Binh Duong province; Tourism Center, Port Logistics Center, Oil and Gas Logistic Services in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
