On June 16, Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee (PPC), Dinh Quoc Thai chaired a conference on evaluating socio-economic situation, national defense - security in the first six months of the year 2014, the orientation, tasks and main solutions for the last 6 months of the year 2014; and at the same time on approving the content of reports, document at the 10th session of the Provincial People’s Council, term VIII taking place on July, 2014.
In the first 6 months of 2014, it is estimated that gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of Dong Nai province is worth more than 24 trillion VND, achieving 42.1% of its plan, showing a 10.8% year-on-year increase. Productive value of the industries experienced year-on-year increases. Industrial Production Index (IPP) rose by 7.7% over the same period. Production and export activities developed greatly for businesses operating in textile and garment, leather and footwear, chemicals, food processing, construction materials thanks to firm orders from overseas markets.
Besides that, foreign investment attraction reached 96.3% of the yearly plan, and FDI disbursement attained up to 560 million USD, equaling to 112% over the same period, meeting 56% of projected annual disbursement plan. In particular, export turnover shows a year-on-year growth. Director of Planning and Investment Department, Mrs. Bo Ngoc Thu, explained this is because foreign-invested enterprises made firm export orders and some companies have just gone into operation. Moreover, revenues of State’s budget increased by 16% compared year-on-year, amounting to 16.2 trillion VND, and achieving 46% of budget planning.
To achieve these above results, province authorities have carried out effective measures in attracting and promoting investment, supporting and accompanying with businesses. In particular, the provincial leaders have prompt actions to assist riot-affected companies due to bad individual extremist’s damaging action in the protest again China on May 13th, and 14th. Up to now, all damage enterprises resumed their production and business activities.
However, according to PPC, some economic sectors still face many drawbacks, such as: difficult real estate market, low price of exported farm produces, high price of raw materials for animal food processing and materials for agricultural production leading to stagnant livestock-breeding industry. In some local, the net-emigration rate increases so rapidly in urban and industrial zones that the province have not built public infrastructure (transport, schools).
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of PPC, Dinh Quoc Thai said that it is a hard task in the last six months to fulfill the target of the year 2014, including efforts to reach the Dong Nai GRDP growth rate from 10.8% to 11.8 %. Chairman of PPC requested departments, agencies to implement six supplementary measures in addition to those approved by Provincial People’s Council. Some included issues in the measures are to promote economic restructuring in compliance with change of growth direction in the province; to speed up the implementation of solutions and procedures in supporting riot-struck businesses in the province, to strengthen the dissemination of information for people (especially workers) to prevent extremist actions; to manage to carry out tasks and methods effectively for business environment improvement and national competitiveness enhancement, etc...
