Wednesday - 09/08/2017 15:29

After many years struggling to meet strict requirements, on June 22, Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. (Loteco Industrial Park, Bien Hoa City) has been officially licensed to export processed chicken to Japanese market, one of the most demanding markets in the world.

Koyu & Unitek Company is the first company in Vietnam to be authorized to export processed chicken to Japanese market.

Strict standard barricades

Mr. Khuu Nhon Hieu, General Director of Koyu & Unitek, said that in order to export the first order into the Japanese market, the company had to work closely with partners to make proper preparation for nearly three years. "Japan does not follow any common standards but it has their own ones so the requirements are very strict," Mr. Hieu said.

The entire process from caring for and feeding chickens to the disease control process must be strictly adhered to in accordance with the requirements made by the Japanese market. Most importantly, according to Mr. Hieu, commercial broilers are not allowed to use flu vaccines. "According to the Japanese authority, using the flu vaccine means that your area is not disease-free. Therefore, chickens are not allowed to use influenza vaccination and must be kept in a disease-free area certified by the State of Vietnam. " In addition, Vietnamese enterprises must also ensure that no antibiotic should be used in broiler chickens within 10 days before being brought to the processing facility.

In order to meet the stringent requirements from Japan, Koyu & Unitek had to build a closed production chain from choosing breeders, breeding, feeding, slaughtering and processing to ensure food safety and hygiene.

In particular, Since Japan only issued import permit for shipments of processed chicken products, Koyu & Unitek has invested $ 6.5 million to build a processing facility. "The whole line of machinery and technology are imported from Japan to build a factory with a processing capacity of 50,000 chickens per day. The output of the factory includes 7 kinds of processed chicken such as fried chicken, chicken burger, chicken meatballs ... qualified for export to Japan market," Mr. Hieu said.

First shipment in mid-August

According to Mr. Khuu Nhon Hieu, General Director of Koyu & Unitek Company, the company has made sample products and is prepared to send to Japanese customers for consideration. If all samples are accepted by the partner, expected in mid-August, the first shipment (about 2 containers equivalent to 25 tons) will be exported to Japan. After that, the company expects to ship about 300 tons of processed chicken products per month.

Build a closed chain

Because of the requirements on commercial chickens made by the Japanese side is very high so in Dong Nai, there are only two farms with a total of 500,000 chickens that are qualified to join the associated chain with Koyu. & Unitek.

According to Mr. Hieu, participating in this chain, farmers only need to perform the breeding process as required with the guidance of engineers from the company. In addition, inputs such as breeders, food, breeding process and output are all provided and guaranteed by the company. "We have imported our breeders from France. The chickens will be delivered to the farms; along with that food will also be supplied to farmers by two chain member enterprises. After 35 days, when commercial chicken reaches about 2.2 kg / head, the company will collect for processing," Mr. Hieu said.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Kha, a chicken farmer in Tan Phu district, one of two chicken farms participating in the chain of Koyu & Unitek Company, said that because the products are made for export to Japan market, The farming process must also comply with quality requirements from the country. Accordingly, when participating in the chain, farmers focus only on breeding process. The rest, from breeders to food, is provided by the chain member companies. "My breeders are provided by Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd., and also by a Japanese company in the supply chain," Mr. Kha said.

According to Mr. Kha, although the farming process is very strict, farmers participating in the chain also have many benefits. "Because we only focus on raising process, we have favorable conditions to manage production, improve quality and productivity." In addition, when participating in the chain, farmers can sign contracts with the company from both the input and the output, thereby they can avoid the impact of the market. "I do not care about the price now since breeders and food are provided by the chain member companies. The output quantity, weight, the delivery date also are stated in the annual contracts so we feel very secure," Mr. Kha emphasized.

Japan imports 900,000 tons of poultry each year

Japan is the world's third-largest importer of poultry products, after China and Russia, with output of about 900,000 tons a year. Currently, partners in Japan have the demand of importing about 2,000 tons of processed chicken per month from Koyu & Unitek Company. However, due to the capacity of the processing plant, the company can only supply about 300 tons per month. Currently, Koyu & Unitek is also looking for a place to build more processing plants to increase capacity.
