Mango from the Cooperative is supported to build commodity brand by Department of Science and Technology |
Covering an area of nearly 8,000 hectares, mango is defined as one of the key plants in the province. Dinh Quan, Xuan Loc and Vinh Cuu are 3 major cultivating areas. However, until now there has been mango in Xuan Hung (Xuan Loc) obtaining VietGap safety standard. Other areas are also promoting the brand building. Mr. Trinh Dinh Quang, head of Dinh Quan Safe Fruit Production – Trading Cooperative said: “The cooperative was established in October 2009 with 56 members and regulatory capital of VND 456 million. Its major line of business is the production and trading of safe fruits. Nowadays, the cooperative is monitoring and cultivating about 220 hectares of mango. To obtain VietGap standard endorsement for Dinh Quan mango area, The cooperative is cooperating with the agricultural sector to analyze soil sample to define whether it is suitable for mango cultivation. In reference to the evaluation, though Dinh Quan land is infertile and actually mixed with mud and has high humidity, it is proper for mango cultivation and growth. In the meantime, the preparedness for brand building for around 10 hectares of mango should proceed. Additionally, the cooperative is also supported by Department of Science and Technology to build the brand by means of founding the website to enable local mango to reach the customers. Mr. Quang also added that 6,000 hectares of Dinh Quan mango cultivating areas such as La Nga, Phu Ngoc and Thanh Son, etc. are generating the concentrating mango planting locations, which facilitates the brand building process. Mangos grown in Dinh Quan are mainly 3-season ones. They produce a large-sized mango, and can be ripened and hardly rotten during far transportation. The quality is comparable to sweet mango Hoa Loc and the price is cheaper than others and the customers are rather fond of them. Besides, Dinh Quan also cultivates Thai and transplanted mangos that have a fairly high economic value.

However, the challenging difficulty and concern from residents are the sale of mango. Recently, Dinh Quan mango is mainly consumed via those trade agents that are likely to lower the purchasing price. Since its establishment, the cooperative helps mango to be consumed at concentrating markets and a part of mangos enters into Metro for consumption, which earns them the reputation among consumers. But, to pave the way for approaching domestic markets and export, safety standard brand building is considered as the key for Dinh Quan mangos to customers.
Apparently, brand building is the desire and urgent issue for Dinh Quan’s mango planters. To make the desires come true, local areas should quickly work on the plan and establishment of concentrating and self-contained areas for mango cultivation from the stages of planting – caring – procurement and consumption.
