It was organized by the collaboration between the National Centre for Agriculture and Fishery Encouragement, Dong Nai Centre for Agriculture Encouragement, the Eastern South Centre for Fruit-tree Research and Agriculture Encouragement Centres of provinces of Tay Ninh, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Binh Thuan. Other preliminary contests are held at Agriculture Encouragement Centres of the remaining provinces. The content of the contests include surveying custard apple varieties at the orchards and scoring the fruit (the quality, the colour, the flesh thickness, the pip rates, the taste and so on)
The contest held in Dongnai has attracted the attention of a number of growers from districts across the province such as Trang Bom, Tan Phu, Xuan Loc, Thong Nhat and so on. There are 52 samples of the fruit in this contest and 28 samples have been chosen. In this morning working session, 7 samples out of 16 ones were evaluated to be good enough to be picked up so that the orchard where they came from would be surveyed by the jury. Tomorrow, the jury will continue scoring the remaining samples. The final contest will take place on July 29 at Dong Nai Centre for Agriculture Encouragement, including samples which reach the standard and pass the preliminary contests.
This the first time such a delicious custard apple contest has been organized on a large scale of 6 provinces of the Eastern South. The contest is the chance to discover and select good custard apple varieties grown in the provinces. The good varieties winning the prizes in the contest will be multiplied for mass production. Besides, the contest also encourages farmers to pay attention to invest in development of crop varieties in agricultural production.
