126 prisoners receive amnesty on National Day

On August 30 morning, together with 17,210 amnesty recipients on the occasion of Vietnam's National Day (September 2), 126 prisoners who have shown repentance at B5 Prison in Dong Nai was granted amnesty by President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Nguyen Phi Hung, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Public Security grants certificates of amnesty to prisoners

 

Sharing joy on the day of release, Chan Van Dat who lives in Gia Canh commune, Dinh Quan district, couldn’t hide his happiness “After serving more than one year in jail, I now can return to my family with my beloved wife and two children. It could be the biggest happiness in my life”. Reportedly, Chau Van Dat, a primary teacher, used to be involved in a severe traffic accident when his driving license was expired. Being sentenced in jail, he has well improved himself and abided by discipline, so the Amnesty Council agreed to grant amnesty to him. Prisoner Nguyen Minh Thanh (Don Duong district, Lam Dong province) who also was sentenced in jail for traffic violation which caused severe accidents said “I has received much attention as well as encouragement from prison guards, even I was provided vocational training courses, thus I could realize the Party and State’s policy of humanity”.

          On the day of amnesty, Colonel Nguyen Phi Hung, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Public Security emphasized “The President’s amnesty decision demonstrates and affirms the Party and State’s policy of clemency for those offenders who have shown repentance, encouraging them to redeem themselves to become useful citizens”. He added “Whatever happens, prisoners should try their best to overcome all difficulties. Additionally, the government at various levels ought to create the best conditions for prisoners to quickly stabilize their life and re-integrated back into the community”.

It was said that these amnesty recipients were previously provided the regulations on amnesty and showed good improvement in prison. These things are aimed to demonstrate the justice and democracy. Dong Nai Public Security also provided ID cards and other papers for the prisoners who are eligible for the amnesty. On the day of release, prisoners who have not been picked up by their relatives yet would be taken to their home.

The granting of amnesty to prisoners demonstrates the Party and State’s policy of humanity and clemency for those who have shown repentance and undergone a comprehensive re-education. However, to prevent amnesty recipients from committing crimes again, social organizations, local authorities and every family need to have responsibility for create favorable conditions for them to early re-integrate back into the community, trying their best to become useful residents.
