FedEx Express’s study of project investment at Long Thanh Airport

Web Portal – On the afternoon of March 5, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee – Mr. Tran Van Vinh welcomed and worked with FedEx Express delegation led by Mr. Hardy Diec, Managing Director of FedEx Express Indochina.

The mission’s purpose of the  delegation in Dong Nai is to exchange the consolidation plan between FedEx and TNT in the near future, to share some of FedEx's experience in planning and operating international airports; update the progress of the project, current difficulties and explore the possibility of cooperation with Dong Nai province in the construction and operation of Long Thanh international airport, a national key project being implemented in Dong Nai. FedEx has been in Vietnam since 1994, being the first courier company to operate separate flights for arrivals and departures.  This company currently has 830 members and operates 18 flights per week.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Van Vinh said that in Dong Nai, the Government is currently constructing Long Thanh International Airport with the capacity to transport 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of goods annually. In addition to the runway construction, two passenger terminals will be built and expected to operate in phase 1 by 2025. The provincial leaders also informed the delegation that in Vietnam, there has been no precedent in allocating land in airports for businesses to build terminals inside the airport.

However, businesses can build a warehouse system to place and deliver goods outside the airport. Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee said that FedEx could discuss with the Ministry of Transport for direction information. And hence, Dong Nai is very welcoming and will create favorable conditions for airlines with experience in investing in transporting goods to invest in exploiting services at Long Thanh International Airport.
