Dong Nai has many distinguished agricultural products that are an advantage for developing agricultural start-up projects

Connecting startup ideas, supporting people and businesses to invest in agriculture, and promoting sustainable commodity production is the direction that Dong Nai is taking.

Great potential

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dong Nai has a total natural area of nearly 6 thousand square kilometers, of which agricultural land accounts for more than 70%, with 470 thousand hectares. More than 60% of the province's population lives in rural areas. Although it is an industrial and service province, Dong Nai always focuses on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, viewing agriculture and rural areas as important factors in socio-economic development. Thanks to the advantages of geographical location and favorable natural conditions, the province's agricultural sector has had positive development, contributing to industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas, associated with the establishment of a new countryside. The development of production models has diversified products, moving agriculture towards commodity production, improving the competitive advantage of products and the entire agricultural sector of the province.

In the period 2019-2023, the entire province has attracted 53 projects from domestic enterprises to invest in projects serving agricultural development, preservation and processing of agricultural products with an investment capital of more than 547.5 trillion VND. In addition, there are 26 foreign-invested projects with a total registered investment capital of nearly 137.7 million USD. These projects have contributed to promoting socio-economic development, especially in agricultural and rural areas. In general, ideas and projects in the agricultural sector account for about half of start-up competitions and won prestigious awards. This shows that people behind those projects know how to promote the strengths of local agricultural products; apply scientific and technological advances to production management; apply technology in post-harvest processing and diversifying products, drawing from practical experience after their production and business models have been deployed and goods are brought to the market.

Develop agricultural start-up support programs

Mr. Tran Lam Sinh, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, affirmed that the potential for start-up, production and business associated with agricultural products in the province is huge. To ensure sustainable development of the agricultural sector, high-tech agriculture, organic agriculture, ecological agriculture, and deep processing of agricultural products are aspects that Dong Nai focuses on. Therefore, there will be many programs to support farmers and startups in terms of market connection, providing capital, finance, training, and improving startup capability in the near future.

Commenting on the policy to support startups in general and the agricultural sector in particular, Mr. Nguyen Van Liet, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, proposed that provincial departments and sectors advise the Provincial People's Committee to continue researching and promulgating preferential policies in a timely manner. Accordingly, financial support and mechanisms are needed for businesses and production facilities to promote investment in technological innovation, apply quality management systems according to ISO standards, and enforce intellectual property rights, brand recognition... At the same time, incentives are given to businesses and production facilities to invest in advanced machinery and equipment in production; attract and train young local intellectuals, scientists and experts to focus on research and innovation in the agricultural field, thereby applying it to production and business.
