Covid-19 pandemic affects many production and business sectors

WP – On March 30, the provincial People's Committee had a meeting with departments to review the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the business and production situation of enterprises in the province.

According to the initial statistics of the Provincial Industrial Zones Authority, the total turnover of enterprises operating in industrial zones (IZs) in the first 3 months was only 98% compared to that in the same period of the year 2019, the total value of imported goods is only 93% over the same period. Currently, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 59 enterprises in industrial zones had to interrupt production, temporarily stopping workers in the first quarter of 2020, including more than 3 thousand workers losing jobs in 15 enterprises.

The Covid-19 pandemic also had an impact on industrial production in some sectors with low or decreased growth over the same period due to the impact of input materials imported from China for production, some of the industries decreased their growth compared to the time before the pandemic, in particular: metal manufacturing industry fell more than 13.7%; beverage production decreased by 8.71%; electronic product manufacturing decreased 6.58%.​

Regarding agriculture, according to calculations of this industry, if the Covid-19 pandemic is still complicated, until May 2020, the mango production of domestic consumption of Dong Nai will only resolved about 20%, the remaining amount will be excess up to 85 thousand tons of mangoes; excess bananas from 75 to 80 thousand tons; other agricultural products such as jackfruit, durian, rambutan each have a few thousand tons of excess.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a strong impact on small and medium-sized businesses operating in the fields of trade in services, the textile and footwear industry, agricultural products, tourism services and retail.​

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Cao Tien Dung assigned the Department of Planning and Investment to sum up the issues that need support to propose that the Government and State Bank should implement and supervise government's support packages and policies for enterprises; that the provincial public security should seize the situation to ensure order and security, especially for the unemployed who are not tempted to commit crimes by bad objects.​
