Live hog price to reduce to VND 70,000/kg from beginning of April

WP - This morning, March 30, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong worked with domestic livestock enterprises to discuss measures to reduce hog prices in the  coming time. The enterprises have pledged to reduce the price of live hog to VND 70,000/kg from the beginning of April.

 


Currently, the price of pork is quite high, according to the conclusion of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at a Government Standing Committee meeting with the Steering Committee on March 20, 2020 on solutions to stabilize pork prices, promoting production and processing of agricultural products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shall assume the prime responsibility and coordinate with the localities and concerned agencies in resolutely deploying the implementation of solutions so that in April 2020, the price will return to normal as before African swine fever, about VND 60,000/ kg with appropriate measures.

Controlling the pork market

At the request of the Prime Minister, ministries, branches, functional agencies and localities shall manage pork products according to the principle: this is an important commodity to serve the needs of consumers, food consumption habit of Vietnamese people. In the context of complicated epidemic and the unsecured supply, pork price in the market price is under the control of the state, focusing on promoting production, breeding, re-breeding, processing, and balancing supply-demand to stabilize meat prices; at the same time, synchronously implementing macroeconomic management, monetary policy and price management solutions to control inflation according to the set targets; drastically implementing measures against speculation, profiteering, manipulating and raising unreasonable prices, and strictly handling violations.

 

It is necessary to strengthen inspection and control of the market, prevent the transportation and trade of unidentified hogs and pork; closely supervise and minimize speculation, hoarding, purchasing, trading and transporting raw hogs and pork illegally across borders; strictly control the export and calculate appropriately from time to time to ensure the supply to the domestic market and avoid the spread of epidemics.

 

It is necessary to propagate on market prices, supply situation and disease prevention; encourage people to use alternatives to pork and use frozen pork instead of fresh meat to reduce pressure on the domestic market supply.

The localities shall instruct food processing businesses in the area to increase the supply of processed pork products from imported pork sources to better meet the needs, tastes of the people and replace a share of demand for fresh meat in the market.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shall assume the prime responsibility and coordinate with the localities and concerned agencies in directing and guiding the localities, functional forces, organizations and individuals engaged in pig production to continue raising responsibility, capacity and application of advanced science and technology in animal husbandry and good implementation of prevention and control of African swine fever; urgently re-herd in sustainability, raise animals under closed model and biosecurity; boost the breed production to ensure a re-supply of the herd and ensure the total number of pigs in the country to meet the domestic consumption demand; develop and process other suitable foods to supplement the people's food consumption needs.​

In addition, it shall continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related agencies to deploy the import of pork right in April 2020 to ensure the total import amount under the policy of about 100 thousand tons in the spirit of Director of Price Steering Committee at Notice No. 35/TB-VPCP dated February 2, 2020 of the Government Office. At the same time, it is necessary to have close coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the agencies to inspect and control wholesale markets and slaughter stages, not to let profiteers take advantage of raising prices in these two stages.
