Construction project of Long Thanh international airport (airport) phase 1 has been started. As plan, by the end of 2025, the project will come into operation with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. Therefore, the "super" project of Long Thanh airport promises to create a huge force for economic and social development. Along with that, this project also opens up opportunities for many economic sectors to make breakthroughs for development, including the logistics service industry.

About 37kms from the construction area of ​​Long Thanh airport to the south, Phuoc An deep-water port is currently undergoing construction investment steps. In this area, the Government has also agreed to adjust the logistics service area of ​​Phuoc An port into a logistics service industrial zone of Phuoc An port. Phuoc An port logistics service industrial park is planned to have a system of goods warehouse services, barge berths, transshipment boat stations ... serve transportation and logistics activities for Phuoc An port area to industrial zones in the region and the Southern Key Economic Zone.

It can be seen that, with the advantage from airports and seaports, the areas of ​​Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts really converges a lot of potential for breakthrough development with the logistics service industry.

The potential for logistics development in this area is also benefited from the advantages of industrial development of the two localities. With 31 industrial parks that have projects in operation in the province today, two localities, Long Thanh and Nhon Trach accounted half of the number of IPs. Therefore, the demand for goods import and export of enterprises in the area is very large. This is a large and potential market for the port system, freight and logistics services.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr Cao Tien Dung said that in the future, when Phuoc An port is completed, the import and export of Dong Nai's goods will mainly be done through this deep-water port. Therefore, logistics service activities will also focus on developing mainly in this area.

Invest in a connected transport system

Airports, seaports or series of operating industrial zones are the advantages for the Long Thanh-Nhon Trach area to develop the logistics service industry. However, to turn this area into the "capital" of the logistics industry requires a long-term and methodical investment.

Mr Dang Van Diem, a member of the Freight and Logistics Association, the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association said: 'In logistics services, water transport and the port system play a very important role. Because beside the large transportation, the cost of transportation by water is also "softer" than by road and air. To be able to promote the advantages of seaports, it is necessary to have a well-connected transport infrastructure system, but currently, connected traffic is the weakness of the seaport system'.

Similarly, to maximize the advantages of Long Thanh airport, Dong Nai also required a methodical plan and investment in the connected traffic system. "It is difficult to take full the advantages of the airport’s advantages when getting stuck in both ways of out and in" - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr Cao Tien Dung used to emphasize.

Stemming from that fact, at present, Dong Nai has calculated and added to the planning a number of traffic routes serving on connecting with Long Thanh airport and they will be implemented in the near future.

For the development the connecting transport system for seaports in Nhon Trach district area, over time, there have been many strategic routes such as road 319, Phuoc An port connecting road (section from the intersection of road 319 to intersection with Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway) has been invested for building.

In particular, the transport infrastructure project connecting to the seaport system in Nhon Trach district area is an inter-port route from Ong Keo Industrial Park to Viet Thuan Thanh port, currently the central government has also agreed to support Dong Nai funds to carry out construction investment. This project not only helps to accelerate the implementation of investment in seaport system construction according to the plan in the area of Nhon Trach district, but also has the meaning of connecting to help goods transport among seaports in the future.

Particularly for the seaports system, the Provincial People's Committee has also asked the authorities to consider adjusting to increase the size and area. Accordingly, instead of small and fragmented development, the seaport system in Nhon Trach district will be planned in the direction of developing a large-scale port cluster to serve the reception of large tonnage ships. From there, improve competitiveness and create conditions for the logistics industry development.
