Member of the Politburo and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung with 457 votes or a 91.4 percent was elected as the Chairman of the 13th National Assembly (NA) by the NA.

At the first session on the afternoon of July 23, on behalf of the NA Standing Committee General Secretary and Chairman of the 12th NA Nguyen Phu Trong read the report on discussions on the list of nominees for the NA Chairman, and Vice Chairmen, and Members of the NA Standing Committee at the NA delegations.

The majority of participants agreed upon the list for the NA Chairman, Vice Chairmen, and Members of the Standing Committee of the 13th NA.

Simultaneously, the NA agreed to put Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc (from Binh Thuan delegation) on the list of members of the NA Standing Committee and nominated him as Head of People Affairs Committee. Thus, the list has grown from 18 to 19 nominees.

The comrades: Tong Thi Phong, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Uong Chu Luu, and Huynh Ngoc Son were elected as Vice Chairmen of the NA.

The other 12 Members of the NA Standing Committee are Phan Xuan Dung, Ksor Phuoc, Nguyen Hanh Phuc, Dao Trong Thi, Nguyen Van Giau, Tran Van Hang, Phung Quoc Hien, Nguyen Van Hien, Nguyen Kim Khoa, Phan Trung Ly, Truong Thi Mai, and Nguyen Thi Nuong.

Thus, the NA Standing Committee are composed of 17 members. The other two candidates got under 50 percent of votes.

Delivering his speech, the new-elected NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung thanked the NA deputies for their faith in the 13th tenure NA Standing Committee and said that it was his great honor to get the responsibilities that the NA and the people have given to him.

The NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said to keep promoting the 12th tenure NA Standing Committee’s obtained achievements, the members of the newly-elected NA Standing Committee and the NA deputies would have to make great efforts to fulfill all given tasks within their responsibilities and authorities that are stated in the Constitution and the law to deserve a government agency with the highest authority, which represents for the country and the people’s rights and interests.

The NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed his wishes that the new-elected NA would continue receiving the support of people from home and abroad in Vietnam’s construction and development process to make it a peaceful, unifying, rich, strong, democratic, just, and civilized country.

In his conclusive speech, on behalf of the 12th tenure NA Standing Committee, the NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong summed up the 12th tenure NA Standing Committee’s operations and tasks that were given by the Party and the people.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung offered flowers to and congratulated the NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and the new NA Standing Committee on a term of great victory and success.
