The whole province’s economy and society kept growing steadily in the first quarter of 2009

The provincial People’s Committee’s report indicated that the province faced a lot of difficulties due to the impact of the global economic crisis but the economy, society and national security and defense kept growing steadily.

Production in Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park

    The province’s GDP in the first quarter was estimated at VND6,576 billion, representing 19.7% of the plan, up 6.6% compared to the same period last year but was lower than that of the first quarter last year. Industrial and construction activities rose by 6.2%, service 8.48% and agriculture – forestry – fishing 2.8%. Investment capital disbursement from the provincial budget reached 19.5% of the year plan, twice as much as the same period last year. However, export fell by 14% compared to the same period in 2008.

    In terms of investment and growth, the total investment in the construction in the first quarter was VND6,107 billion, accounting for 21.8% of the plan, up 19.1%. The major projects which are under way consist of 6 transferred, 2 newly-commenced and 2 ready to launch. In the process of developing privately-owned businesses, their total registered capital was estimated at VND3,000 billion, equal to 68.8% compared to the same period last year. There have been 520 new company start-ups with the total registered capital of VND2,000 billion, constituting 27.4% of the plan, up 11.6% compared to the same period last year and 150 businesses have been committed to a capital increase of VND1,000 billion. Until now, the privately-owned businesses have accumulatively amounted to 8,545 with the total registered capital of more than VND53,356 billion. Tourist industry has attracted 432,141 tourists, representing 26.5% of the plan and the total revenue is over VND100 billion, up 40.4% compared to the same period last year. In addition, the management of land, resources and environment, the government’s demand stimulus package and the activities of culture, sports, medicine, society, education, science, technology, administrative reforms, national security and defense… were promoted and showed positive results. More than 25,000 jobs were given to job seekers in the first quarter and 474 poor households were loaned VND3.8 billion to do small business.

    The major task in the second quarter will mainly get involved in putting the government’s demand stimulus package into action to help businesses stabilize production and checking how twelve socio-economic programs were implemented – reviewing socio-economic development plan, getting an update on the world situation to produce effective solutions and considering the possibility for achieving the development target in 2009 – striving to reach the industrial production value of VND22,896 billion, representing 25% of the plan - setting up the projects of developing  production and processing clean and safe vegetables, fruits and tea – keeping urging local authorities to speed up the progress of building and making plans for breeding zones and concentrated slaughter businesses – complying with legal regulations on preventing, fighting diseases in poultry and animals and aquacultural breeding – completing socio-economic tasks and achieving socio-economic targets.
