Recently, Dong Nai province’s website has published the news that “Thien An taxi company’s meters are calibrated”. This is the first time Dong Nai province has organized a meter calibration program for all taxi companies operating in the province. Thien An company wanted its name to be on the periodic inspection list and this time it had 32 cabs under inspection. After calibration, it was noticeable that seven cabs showed a deviation rate more than the allowed maximum one – 3%, compared to the stipulated one – 2%, which is based on the government’s regulations because some parts of the system might show wear or changes of technical characteristics after one year’s use. So a deviation occurrence beyond the allowed rate is common. Immediately, the company’s technicians readjusted the meters that failed to meet the standard and re-calibrated them. After calibration, the results showed that the meters of all these cars satisfy the requirements by Vietnam’s measurement standards system 01:2003.

The center’s technician is inspecting
the taxi |
It is to
comply with the statutory regulations that the company wants its taxi meters
under calibration. It was not the inspectors detected the company’s fare fraud
that it requested for calibration. This action is praiseworthy. Therefore, the
articles of some newspapers such as "Dong Nai: many cabs are using fraudulent
meters" in the Online Saigon Tiep Thi and "Dong Nai: many cabs are using
taxi meters that do not meet the required standard" in the Online Tien Phong
prove negative and do not reflect the true nature. This is a very positive
action of Thien An company. Thus, the newspapers that have carried the above
news should correct it.
