The rate of progress of building the waste water treatment system in Bien Hoa new market was inspected

At the present, three industrial parks within Dong Nai province – Bien Hoa 2, Amata and Loteco industrial parks – have built and put their centralized systems of waste water treatment into operation. Long Binh Agtex industrial park alone built a centralized system of waste water treatment in the fourth quarter of 2008. The system is expected to come into operation in 2009. As for collecting and treating household garbage within the city, People’s Committee of the city gave 26 wards and communes guidance on collaborating with MTV environmental and urban services company of Bien Hoa in producing statistics, checking and collecting the local garbage. As a result, the garbage-collected rate reached 85.27% of the total garbage.

The delegation met with Dong Xanh environmental joint-stock company (which used to be called Vu Nhut Hong company) and heard its leadership report the rate of progress of collecting and treating the company’s garbage. The company has a maximum capacity of 400 tons/ day and has operated since June 2008. Up to now, it has collected and treated 300 to 400 tons of household garbage on average every day, which contributes to collecting and treating the city’s garbage. After the field trip to the two markets – Hoa An and Bien Hoa – the delegation said: “Market stands are not arranged systematically. Food stands are in damp conditions and haven’t met hygienic requirements. Pathways in the market need building on a slope for good drainage in the rainy season. Especially, Bien Hoa new market must not come into operation until its new system of waste water treatment is finished”.

Vice chairman of Committee’s Council – Huynh Chi Thang came to a conclusion on his working visit and said: “Building and planning do not go together, so it usually causes floods in many parts of Bien Hoa city in the rainy season. While we are waiting for the drainage system to be built, the city needs to have rivers and streams dredged regularly for better drainage when the rainy season comes”. Also, Vice chairman of People’s Council reminded: “Building markets must go together with building their waste water treatment zones. On-the-spot waste water treatment system needs building in residential areas before they have a centralized system of waste water treatment so that dumping waste water into the environment can be avoided”.
