2 Vietnamese women appointed by President Barrack Obama to VEF

​Ms. Nguyen Phuc Anh Lan from Houston and Ms. Vuong Ngoc Quyen from San Jose (California) were appointed to the Board of Directors of the Vietnamese Education Foundation – VEF by President Barack Obama.


This information was announced in The White House News, issued on 17th May.
 
“These individuals have demonstrated knowledge and dedication throughout their careers. I am grateful they have chosen to take on these important roles, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come” said President Obama.
 
In Vietnamese Community in Houston, Ms. Nguyen Phuc Anh Lan is currently running IT project portfolios at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association. She is familiar with American people. Ms. Nguyen is taking a PhD course at University of Texas as well.

In 1998, Ms. Nguyen established the National Youth Leadership Development Camp in 1998, and in 1990 she helped found the Vietnamese Youth Center of Toronto. Ms. Nguyen won the Women’s Leadership Empowerment Award by the Texas Women Empowerment Foundation in 2011 and was named one of the “Top 25 Women of Houston” by Comerica Bank and the Steed Society in 2010 for her leadership and community involvement.
 
Quyen N. Vuong is the Executive Director of the International Children Assistance Network in San Jose, CA, an organization she co-founded in 2000. She is also a board member of the Pacific Links Foundation, an organization she co-founded in 2001, and a founding member of the Vietnamese American Non-Governmental Network, created in 2004.
 
Ms. Quyen holds a B.A. in Economics from Yale University, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  Ms. Quyen is well-known for her charities to children and teen girls in Vietnam via ICAN organization…
 
In February 2010, President Barack Obama appointed Mr. David Duong to member of VEF.
 
Besides, in this early May, The Senate approved Judge Jacqueline Nguyen’s nomination for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuitby President Barack Obama with 91 votes positive and 3 ones negative.
 
It is widely known that Jacqueline H. Nguyen has become the first Vietnamese American and first Asian-Pacific woman to serve on a federal appeals court.
