Unburnt construction materials are still modest

Many years ago, the Government and Dong Nai issued many resolutions, directives and documents to encourage the development of unburnt construction materials in order to reduce land exploitation and reduce environmental pollution, but so far, both in terms of the number of production facilities and the output, the demand is still modest.

Slow selling products
Since 2010, Dong Nai has had a policy of developing unburnt building materials to gradually replace baked clay bricks, in order to reduce land use and reduce CO2 emissions. In 2013, the Provincial People's Committee continued to issue directives on encouraging and increasing the use of unburnt building materials and restricting the production and use of baked clay bricks in construction works in the province. In order for this directive to be effective, the province imposes a mandatory rate of unburnt bricks for the group of works, requiring the elimination of manual brick kilns. There have been many unburnt brick production facilities established, but later on, both facilities and output scale decreased.
Khang Thanh Loi Co., Ltd. (Thanh Phu Industrial Zone, Vinh Cuu district) uses stone powder from mineral mines to make unburnt bricks since 2015. Currently, the factory maintains production of about 3 million tablets per year, the ability to develop customers and expand production scale is almost nonexistent.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Director of Khang Thanh Loi Co., Ltd shared that the company has embarked on researching, making bricks to welcome the market. Products made of stone powder taken from mineral and cement mines are very strong and recognized as meeting the standards of unburnt construction materials, but consumption is quite slow. “We can maintain production because we have traditional customers in the Southeast provinces. Many production facilities were born at the same time and after several years were discontinued because they could not sell goods" - Loi said.
Thanh Tung 2 Co., Ltd. (Vinh Cuu district) uses waste sludge, ash, glass to make brick blocks, terrazzo bricks not fired by solid chemical method. The product is tested waterproof, not bloated, resistant to high pressure. Products suitable for sugar, construction of civil use but made only to take away, donate.
Mr. Bui Xuan Hung, General Director of Thanh Tung 2 Co., Ltd said that in 2016, he made unbaked bricks from industrial waste, good products but not consumable. “I think there should be specific support policies such as tax reduction, product price support, pioneering use instead of general incentives. In addition, the State needs to stipulate the mandatory proportion of unburnt building materials for social works, both to popularize new products and to support production enterprises. Otherwise, unburnt construction materials will return to the starting line, "- Mr. Hung shared.

Need support from the Government
According to the Environmental Protection Sub-Department (Department of natural resources and environment), the production of unburnt construction materials from industrial waste (waste sludge, ash), mining waste (stone powder, sand powder) reduces land exploitation, reducing emissions to the environment, but the current technology of producing unburnt bricks mostly does not meet the technical requirements for the quality of adhesion, the connection circuit is not high, and it is waterproof. Therefore, the product has not been popular with many people.
Mr. Vong Khieng, member of Dong Nai Provincial Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment, said that the demand of the market is a factor that promotes the development of “green" building materials. “In order for unburnt building materials to develop, I think science and technology must step in and handle the limitations. Products that meet the needs of users themselves will develop" - said Mr. Vong Khieng.
In addition to quality reasons, habits, there is an opinion that unbaked bricks are difficult to develop in part because the localities have not drastically closed traditional brick kilns. For example, Bien Hoa City takes 5 years to completely stop the production of clay bricks by manual furnace, manually improve the use of fossil materials that pollute the environment. Long Thanh district has a policy to move brick kilns out of residential areas since 2017 but has not been able to do so so far.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi said that the State has many regulations that pave the way for the unburnt building materials industry to develop, but very few businesses have access to the policy, must "swim" completely. Dong Nai has many advantages in developing unburnt building materials, which are materials from quarries, large regional consumption markets, and need specific support policies for enterprises to develop the industry. this profession.
Box: Construction works must use 70-80% unburnt materials
Decision No. 2171/QD-TTg dated December 23, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Program to develop unburnt building materials in Vietnam until 2030 requires: From now to 2025, construction works shall be invested with public investment capital, foreign state capital from public investment, the ratio of using unburnt materials to the total amount of construction materials applied in the provinces. The Southeast region must be at least 80% for urban centers of grade III or higher, and at least 70% in the remaining regions; Construction works of 9 floors or more must use at least 80% unburnt building materials. By 2030, construction works invested with public investment capital, foreign state capital from public investment using 100% unburnt materials, construction works of 9 floors or more must use at least 90 % of unburnt building materials compared to the total amount of construction materials.
