In the past years, with an effort to create a breakthrough in agricultural development in the direction of suitable crop structure transformation, Tan Phu District has created specialized farming areas with high quality crops and high economic efficiency, creating its own brand for local agricultural products such as Phu An durian growing area, Tra Co giant freshwater shrimp farming area, Phu Dien, Phu Thanh rice growing area, etc.

Traceability for specialized farming areas

Building certification and traceability systems for some specialized farming areas is one of the goals that Tan Phu District is aiming to increase competition for locally strong products. In particular, the durian growing area in Phu An Commune and the giant freshwater shrimp farming area in Tra Co Commune are specialized farming areas that have created their own brands for many years in the market.

It is really interesting, even though it is a mountainous district, Tan Phu has a famous marine product for its quality and competitive advantage, which is giant freshwater shrimp farmed in Tra Co Commune, on an area about 54 hectares, of which more than 30 hectares are raised under the VietGAP model. According to local assessment as well as specialized agencies, Tra Co area has a natural water source that is very suitable for giant freshwater shrimp farming, so over the past 20 years, this area has formed an effective shrimp farming area, contributing to improving the living standards of local people. However, the limitation of shrimp farmers is that there is not enough water for farming in the dry season, so the source of shrimp is not regular, affecting the supply of goods to large enterprises in large quantities. In order to work with farmers to find a way to overcome the above limitations, Tan Phu District has proposed a number of relevant departments and branches to support the locality in building certification and traceability system for the giant freshwater shrimp farming area and developing it. Reported to evaluate the economic efficiency of shrimp farming in crop 2. Mr. Hoang Van Binh, Head of Tra Co Fishery Cooperation Group, said that Tra Co farmers have long tried to apply the VietGAP shrimp farming model to maintain their brand, hope the product is further developed. However, farmers who only know how to raise shrimp cannot afford to build a traceability system without support from the local authorities. Therefore, people hope the support to be implemented soon so that VietGAP highland giant freshwater shrimp products can reach further to the domestic market, even export to foreign markets.

Along with shrimp, Phu An durian products are also being proposed by the district to the authorities to support solutions to build a traceability system to be able to step into foreign markets by the main lane with the name Phu An Durian. A representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Phu District said that Phu An durian is also a kind of fruit produced under the VietGAP model for a long time and has reached export standards. However, due to limitations on traceability procedures according to foreign market requirements, for a long time, Phu An durians that want to go to foreign markets must go through a third intermediary. Therefore, if a traceability system is built for durian fruit, farmers' products will have a stable consumption channel with high prices, contributing to increasing people's income.

Diversified high quality products

Along with the plan to build a traceability system for specialized farming areas with strengths, Tan Phu District is also aiming to deploy other strong production models such as supporting the implementation production projects of organic standard rice, building a topic to restore Base rice variety of Chau Ma ethnic people in Ta Lai Commune, etc. Besides, every year, Tan Phu District also sets aside a budget to support deploying the application of science and technology in agricultural production, such as transferring and applying the “3-decrease and 3 increase” model on rice, healthy production models according to VietGAP standards, and a water-saving irrigation model. The above programs have brought positive effects, contributed to improving production value for farmers, creating specialized farming areas with healthy agricultural products, satisfying the needs of farmers and meet the general criteria of the market, creating sustainable development for the local agricultural industry.

Sharing the efforts of Tan Phu District over the past time, Chairman of the District People's Committee Nguyen Huu Ky said that the district has implemented many solutions to support people in promoting the application of science and technology in production. Agricultural model applying high technology has been formed in recent times. The results show that the agricultural production value of the district always has an average growth rate of nearly 8% per year. Continuing the achieved results, in the coming time, the district will develop the agricultural sector in depth, improve productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness based on science and technology. Connecting agricultural development with advanced new rural construction. Linking agriculture with processing industry and consumption market. In particular, in the coming time, Tan Phu District will promote the development of eco-tourism and agricultural tourism, turning agricultural production models into tourist destinations. In addition, taking advantage of local tourism advantages such as forests and lakes to integrate and connect ecotourism products with agricultural and community tourism to create linkages between agriculture and tourism – a specific feature of Tan Phu District.
