Urban areas in the province currently have very few architectural works to create highlights. It is this that makes the cities "faded" in creating their own identity.
The organization of architectural contests for public investment
projects is considered as one of the solutions to get the highlight
architectural works for urban areas in the province.
An Hao Bridge was once held an architectural contest, but due to financial difficulties, it could not be invested and built according to the winning plan.
Lack of architectural highlight works
Dong Nai currently has 11 urban areas, of which Bien Hoa city is a grade I city directly under the province. In recent years, the urban development in the province has achieved positive results, making great contributions to the economic and social development in the province. However, urban areas in the province are also facing many hot problems due to rapid urbanization such as pressure on urban infrastructure system, environmental pollution...
Along with that, the urban areas in the province are now falling into the "faded" state of landscape and architecture. Cities have almost no architectural highlights to create their own characteristics and identities.
Bien Hoa is the central city of the province with a history of more than 300 years of establishment and development. But to name the outstanding urban architecture is... too few. Tran Bien Temple of Literature, Dong Nai Museum, Dong Nai General Hospital, The Pegasus Plaza... are rare works that are temporarily considered "features" of the architecture of Bien Hoa city today.
The situation of "poor" of works with architectural highlights is also one of the causes leading to the "faint" landscape and space of Bien Hoa urban area. Architect Ly Thanh Phuong, Chairman of the Provincial Association of Architects, said that Bien Hoa city is a grade I city, however, going around the city, it is difficult to find an architectural work with its own characteristics, creating a highlight. “A city must have a certain street, square or architectural work with its own identity so as not to be similar to other urban areas. We have invested a lot, but we have not had any projects to create a highlight, bring the unique characteristics of Bien Hoa urban area "- architect Ly Thanh Phuong shared.
In fact, not only Bien Hoa but also most urban areas in the province are facing such limitations.
Creating worthy architectural works
The organization of architectural contests, especially large-scale, high-impact architectural works is one of the solutions to be able to gather and promote all creativity of society through the broad participation of professionals and the community. Through the entrance exam, there will be options that both satisfy the public's taste, promote the creativity of the designers, and bring economic profits to the investors, and at the same time help the government and developers. management receives positive social effects, building a new development image for cities.
Dr. Architect Phan Dang Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Architects, said that the fact that an urban area has a prominent and prominent architectural work will create positive effects for the development process. "Assuming that Bien Hoa City has an architectural work emerging as a national phenomenon, it will create a great attraction for culture and tourism," said Mr. Phan Dang Son.
According to Mr. Phan Dang Son, the architectural competition should depend on the scale and extent of the work to achieve economic efficiency as well as product efficiency. “Some localities have done this very well, such as Binh Dinh province. Architectural works through the competition have created Binh Dinh a great attraction in terms of tourism and culture "- Mr. Phan Dang Son added.
According to architect Ly Thanh Phuong, localities in the province are very interested in implementing architectural contests for public investment projects. However, the current bottleneck is that in order to take the architectural exam, the project must be approved by the investment policy. But the time from having the investment policy to completing the investment dossier for approval is only 6 months, which is too short to hold the entrance exam.
