Of the province’s nine major industries, the processing industry is the one with the highest growth rate. Three industries with a decrease in production compared to the same period are paper, mining, building materials, power and water.
Particularly, there are some industries showing an increase in production compared to the same period. For example, the processing industry obtains the highest growth rate (an increase of 11.9% over the same period) with its products mainly consumed in the domestic market, which holds down the impact of the economic recession – the textile and footwear industry is under a big impact of the global recession but keeps maintaining a relatively high growth rate, earning almost VND10 thousand billion, up 11% over the same period – the timber and bamboo processing industry earns VND2.6 thousand billion in the first 6 months of 2009, up 9.2% – the industry of chemicals, rubber and plastics earns VND5.4 thousand billion, up 7.2% and the mechanic industry earns nearly VND5 thousand billion, up 8.8% over the same period. Three industries show a decrease over the same period. The industry of exploiting and manufacturing building materials earns nearly VND2 thousand billion, down 4%; the paper industry earns VND818.6 billion, down 22.41%; the power and water industry is expected to earn VND323.3 billion, down 10.50% compared to the same period.
According to the industry forecast, the industrial production in the last six months of the year might show a positive sign.
