· A diversified contest
Busily arranging and directing members of her team to rehear performance before the contest, Ms Thu Ha – Head of Long Khanh team said “To prepare for the contest, all female members have tried their best to arrange their time and work to practise and improve their knowledge for a month”. The contents of this contest are related to environment protection propaganda which is one of the hottest issues nowadays, so every member feels eager for the contest, she added. She stated “Our team participates in the contest to learn more experiences from other teams in order to better serve for environment protection propaganda”. Therefore, they felt rather calm and confident of their performance.

The short drama named “Listening-Watching-Protection” performed by Long Khanh town told a story that a residential quarter was recognized as a cultural quarter but the residents of this quarter did not have good attitude towards their surrounding environment at all. Through their very funny performance, members of Long Khanh Town brought a lot profound messages to the contest. It can be said that that people often drop litters on the pavements and on the street without any worries or hesitation. This issue can be easily seen in our daily life.
Cao Thanh Ha, Head of Cam My district, expressed “The weather conditions has become more and more severe, causing serious consequences to human life including heavy floods”. She said the main reason is due to the fact that human beings are responsible for the changes in weather and environment. Thus, through the contest, apart from improving knowledge, they hoped to make their contribution to protect the environment.

At the contest, it could be easily seen that each team had their own style of performance which made great impressions on everyone though all teams had the same purpose of enhancing knowledge of environment protection propaganda. The contents that all teams mentioned were so practical that everyone felt surprised and realized that we sometimes unintentionally pollute the environment in daily activities.
Moreover, participants combined their performance with geographic features of each locality that made the contest become more exciting. Typically, Nguyen Thi Kim Hong from Cam My district said that almost residents in Cam My district make their living by farming so her team’s performance sent a message about clean water protection and safe use of insecticides in agriculture to the contest. Cam My district’s performance related to the problem that many households faced “Why fish died?”. After finding out the reason, everyone realized that excessive use of insecticides and chemical fertilizers in agriculture is the cause of water pollution, so most fish raised in ponds died slowly.

Ms Kim Hong, Head of the Women’s Union branch of Xuan Duong commune, Cam My district, said that in order to raise public awareness of environment protection in the community, the propaganda task needs to be enhanced. Therefore, the Women’s Union branch of Xuan Duong commune always actively builds particular action plans which are closely connected with the role of women such as the movement on payment hygiene, and the movement of “3 cleans” named “clean alley, clean house and clean kitchen”, etc.

· Contributing to the enhancement of propaganda task
Nguyen Thi Huong, Vice-Chairwoman of the provincial Women’s Union, said with the awareness of the environment’s special role for life and health of human beings, and of the importance of environment protection propaganda task, the Women’s Association at all levels has always focused on the task of propagandizing, educating, and mobilizing female public employees as well as local residents to understand more about environment protection policy. Thanks to this, almost female members actively participated in environment protection activities and the projects on clean water supply and environmental hygiene in rural areas.
In addition, the Women’s Association at all levels built many new models such as women’s club on environment protection, club of bird-flu prevention, women’s group on environment hygiene and garbage collection, etc. At the same time, the Association also cooperated with Vietnam Bank for social policies to provide loans for women to invest in the construction of public toilets and bathrooms, clean water containers, and sullage pits.

Ms Huong emphasized that the contest “Female public employees with the environment protection task” 2010 is one of the activities co-organized by the provincial Women’s Union and the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment to help female public employees directly conduct the propaganda task to each member and local residents so that they can understanding the environment protection knowledge. At the same time, they can learn more experiences of propaganda task, mobilizing women to protect environment effectively.
With the theme “climate change”, the contest this year attracted the participation of many female public employees including those who live in ethnic minority, deep-lying and remote areas. This was an opportunity for women to exchange experiences with each other and have a profound understanding of environment, and then we can find out reasonable solutions for environment protection, Ms Huong said.
