On June 4, Vice-Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga had a shift-transfer meeting with departments, sectors on labor dispute situation in the province in the first six months.
According to report from Department of Labors, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in the first six months 2010, there have been 92 labor disputes which led to strikes of 62,500 labors, mainly in foreign invested enterprises (85 cases among 92 in total). In May alone, there were 16 strikes. Labor dispute situation tends to rise and shows implicit complexity.
Basic causes for strikes lie in low income of laborers compared with their minimum expense need, so many strikes occur for laborers demanded more payment and benefits than present regulations.

Shift-transfer meeting in the provincial People’s Committee on labor dispute situation |
On the side of labor users, some businesses, especially ones in Tam Phuoc Industrial Park, have not conformed to legal regulations on labor which are related to advantages of laborers such as working condition, toxicity, etc.
In the meeting, Ms. Huynh Thi Nga suggested Department of Labors, War Invalids and Social Affairs collaborate with the provincial Labor Federation and related sectors to find out the major reason behind those strikes, understand labors’ feelings and aspirations to have proper solutions. She also requested inter-sectoral investigator delegation to boost inspection and check in businesses with a large number of workers and ones with many strikes in industrial parks. During check and supervision process, it is necessary to guide them to conform to regulations on labor and have measures to raise capability of grassroots labor union, encourage them to implement the collective labor agreements, cooperate with federation of businesses to disseminate them to comply with labor law to minimize strikes in the province in the coming time.
