Develop a fast growing, yet sustainable tourism industry

(News Portal – Dong Nai) - On the morning of November 15, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an online conference on rapid and sustainable development of Vietnam tourism. Attending the conference were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, leaders of ministries and localities across the country. Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc chaired the conference with leaders of a number of sectors and fields of the province.

At the conference, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung reported that in 2023, the international and domestic situation still possess multiple challenges, but with the leadership and direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, , the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, support from ministries, departments and localities, the people, as well as the business community, the Vietnamese tourism industry have achieved some outstanding results. In October 2023, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached nearly 10 million, increasing 4,6 times over the same period last year, exceeding the whole year's plan target. Domestic visitors reached nearly 98,7 million visitors. Total revenue from tourists reached over 582 trillion VND... At the conference, ministries, departments and localities across the country also voiced their opinions.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts of Vietnam's tourism industry. However, the current development is still not worthy of Vietnam's potential. Through analysis and evaluation of positive and negative aspects, the Prime Minister has ordered localities and businesses to focus on a number of issues such as: raising awareness and the importance of the value of the tourism industry, involved parties must be proactive and effective in distributing and developing the tourism industry; develop a comprehensive, rapid, sustainable but highly effective tourism ecosystem; building a unique tourism image of Vietnam based on human resources, nature landscapes, historical and cultural traditions of our country; closely and effectively cooperation between related businesses and owners to develop the tourism industry. The connection must be strengthened between the central government and localities, between public and private agencies, between sectors, levels and localities. These are important requirements in order to build a value chain linking national and global tourism. There must be a change in mindset and approach to develop the tourism industry in a direction that are flexible in policies, with no traffic congestions, efficient management, capable of maintaining both the infrastructure and human resources; as well as coming up with new and unique methods and approaches.

In order for tourism to develop according to the above viewpoints, the Prime Minister also pointed out a number of tasks and solutions in the coming time. Specifically, all levels, sectors, localities and professional associations and businesses in the tourism sector need to implement Resolution No. 82/NQ-CP of the Government with the motto of "close connection, harmonious coordination, comprehensive cooperation", which focuses on implementing comprehensive connection, efficient, defined responsibilities, promoting the guiding role of the national tourism agency, the essential role of major leading tourist centers; continue to invest and synchronously develop socio-economic infrastructure, especially logistics infrastructure in the direction of strengthening provincial, inter-regional, domestic and international links; strengthen the partnership between the public-private sector following the market mechanisms in the spirit of " together through ups and downs"; have mechanisms and policies to effectively mobilize the resources of enterprises, especially the major enterprises investing in tourism development; stimulating the expansion of the public – private management models in tourism development; creating a favorable business environment, stimulating startups, innovation, developing business capacity, establishing businesses with strong tourism brands; support small and medium-sized enterprises and tourism businesses to apply science and technology, provide digital transformation and access to capital; focus on training and developing, as well as the quantity of human resources for the tourism industry, maintain the balance in production facilities and quality, in accordance with the requirements of competition and integration...

In Dong Nai, in October 2023, the number of tourists reached over 2,4 million, of which, over 2,3 million domestic visitors, nearly 90 thousand international visitors. Tourism service revenue reached over 1,47 trillion VND, an increase of 42,1% over the same period in 2022.
