Many challenges for breeders

Saturday - 18/03/2023 19:30
According to breeders in the province, currently the listed prices of animal feeds at companies and agents providing animal feed remain the same. Some companies have promotions for buyers in the form of additional discounts for farmers about 100 VND/kg of animal feed.

In 2023, farmers will continue to face many difficulties and challenges because the consumption market is slow, causing some livestock products to still be sold below production costs.

In particular, there is no small difficulty when forecasting input costs, especially animal feed, which depends heavily on the import market, so it will still be on the rise in the coming time.

Farmers worry about losses

Currently, the price of live pigs sold at the farm ranges from 50-52 thousand VND/kg. With this selling price, farmers are losing capital. According to Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Breeding Association Nguyen Kim Doan, with current input costs, the production cost of 1 kg of live pigs will increase to VND 55,000/kg, if the pig herd does not grow well or is lost. Because of the high epidemic, the price can be over 60,000 VND/kg. With the current selling price, farmers, especially farming households, are struggling to bear losses. With the current high price of animal feed and many additional costs, many farms are at risk of "hanging" the barn. In fact, a series of small livestock farmers have quit their jobs because the more they raise the more losses they make.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dao, owner of a livestock farm in Vinh Tan commune, Vinh Cuu district, is worried that from 2022 to now, the price of pork has fluctuated in a downward direction, but the price of animal feed has only increased not go down. With the price of live pigs on the market today, farmers fall into loss again. It is forecasted that the price of animal feed in 2023 may continue to increase, not decrease, making farmers even more afraid to continue bearing losses.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, a pig raising household in Tan An commune (Vinh Cuu district), shared that even in the peak season for consumption, which is the 2023 Lunar New Year market, farmers also have no profit due to the price of chicken products. If we graze the garden, the price of duck meat is lower than that of the same period every year. In 2023, the most worrying thing for farmers is that input costs will continue to increase, especially the price of animal feed, but the consumption market of livestock products is still difficult to prosper due to the general difficulties of the economic situation. .

Difficulty in the market
According to some traders buying pigs in Dong Nai, as a rule every year, in the last months of the year, especially during the Lunar New Year, the price of live pigs is constantly increasing and may occur. price fever statue. The reason is that this is the time when both the domestic consumption market and the export market suddenly increased, especially the small-scale export of live pigs to the Chinese market. But the 2023 Lunar New Year, traders could not export pigs to the Chinese market. Farmers expect that after the 2023 Lunar New Year, the export of pigs to China will change when the country relaxes the control of the Covid-19 epidemic. But so far, the export of pigs to this market has not shown signs of improvement.
The domestic market is overloaded because livestock products cannot be exported as expected. Meanwhile, the home field is also under great pressure because production supply is greater than demand, after the Lunar New Year 2023, the consumption market tends to decrease because of economic difficulties.
Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association Nguyen Kim Doan added that at the peak of consumption during the 2023 Lunar New Year, the price of live pigs suddenly cooled down, not increased as usual due to the fact that the export of pigs to the Chinese market is completely closed, pigs exported to Cambodia are very few, the consumption of the domestic market is also slower than every year. The supply of pigs is greater than the demand, which is the reason why live pigs will continue to have a new price reduction after the Lunar New Year 2023. Breeders are suffering losses and will continue to face difficulties in 2023.
The livestock industry continues to face many difficulties and challenges due to the decreasing sales of products while costs, especially the price of animal feed, remain stable at a high level. It is forecasted that in 2023, prices of many raw materials for animal feed production such as corn, soybeans, wheat, etc. will tend to increase again after cooling down. The main reason is due to the forecast that the supply of the world market will decrease due to many reasons, of which, many countries are afraid of losing their crops due to adverse effects of natural disasters and weather.
