In this year's dry season, water resources in reservoirs and irrigation systems are quite abundant to supply agricultural production. In particular, this year's winter-spring crop, the agricultural sector and localities actively plan to ensure water sources for irrigation, so farmers can rest assured in production.
Da Ton Lake, Tan Phu District has abundant water sources for production and daily life
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total rainfall so far has reached about 109% compared to the average of many years, the reservoir capacity is about 94.69% compared to the total capacity and increased by 5.19% over the same period.
Ensuring water for irrigation in the dry season
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the winter-spring crop of 2021 - 2022, the whole province will ensure the water source for irrigation for an area of over 21.1 thousand hectares; summer-autumn crop irrigated nearly 15.8 thousand hectares; irrigation crop on 18.3 thousand ha. From the beginning of the year until now, the whole province has not let any damage due to drought and saltwater intrusion in the irrigation areas of the irrigation works.
Mr. Le Xuan Toan, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, said that currently, most of the reservoirs in the province managed by enterprises have increased in volume compared to the same period last year. In particular, Suoi Vong lake (Cam My district) with a design capacity of 4.35 million m3 every year is often at risk of water shortage in the dry season, but up to now, the lake's capacity has reached nearly 3.9 million m3, more than doubled over the same period last year and reached more than 89% of the total capacity.
In addition to the production land area with irrigation system, the agricultural production land area is mainly the land for perennial industrial crops and fruit trees, which are actively irrigated with water-saving irrigation solutions. According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, localities in the province have implemented the construction and installation of economical watering systems including basic irrigation and sprinkler irrigation on an area of nearly 57,000 hectares. In which, the group of annual plants is more than 11,000 hectares, the group of fruit trees is 23,000 hectares, the group of perennial and industrial plants is 22 thousand hectares, the rest are forestry trees. The application of an advanced and water-saving irrigation system contributes to improving crop efficiency, saving about 25% of watering workers, saving about 20% of irrigation water.
Increase investment in irrigation
Currently, in the province, there are 137 irrigation works in operation, including: 18 reservoirs, 56 dams, 39 pumping stations, 24 works to prevent saltwater, prevent floods, and drain floods and over 636 km of canals, billions of dollars. The percentage of canals being solidified is more than 51.4%. Total capacity for irrigation is nearly 51,000 hectares, for pepper and salt prevention more than 9.3 thousand hectares; water supply for domestic and industrial use is nearly 112,000 m3/day. Irrigation works in the province have been promoting effectively, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province.
The province is focusing on investing in the irrigation system for production. In the period 2021-2025, the whole province is investing in 35 irrigation projects, including works for irrigation, expansion of reservoirs, and solidification of canals, with a total cost of nearly 6.2 trillion VND. In which, there are 11 projects under construction with a total cost of more than 1.5 thousand billion VND and 24 projects in the application stage with a total implementation cost of about 4.7 thousand billion VND.
Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Tien Sy assessed that the irrigation canals and ditches in the province are working well, ensuring water sources for irrigation in the coming dry season. From the beginning of the year until now, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has conducted a physical inspection of 27 works including 14 reservoirs, 6 flood dams, 7 systems to prevent salinity, drainage canals in 6 districts and cities with many lakes, reservoirs, irrigation works include: Nhon Trach, Xuan Loc, Long Thanh, Trang Bom, Cam My and Long Khanh city. Through inspection, localities and management units meet the requirements of ensuring construction safety, assign and arrange regular staff at construction sites to promptly respond to accidents if they occur.
At the same time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has advised the Provincial People's Committee to set up the Advisory Council to assess the safety of dams and reservoirs in the province. Up to now, the Council has organized inspection and safety assessment for 16 reservoirs. contain water.
