Chairperson of US-Vietnam Commerce Council visits Vietnam

In the morning of October 16, at the talk with Mrs. Viriginia Foote, chairperson of US-Vietnam Commerce Council, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem requests American enterprises together with Vietnamese counterparts to make good preparation for the visit of American President Bush to Vietnam at the end of this year by making economic content, particularly trade and investment one, become the “outstanding event” in this visit.

17ThutuongAt the meeting, Mrs. Foote informs Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister about the latest news about the course of Vietnam admission to WTO and congratulates Vietnam on her completion of the bilateral negotiation with her partners. She believes that Vietnam will be admitted as member of WTO soon. US-Vietnam Commerce Council and American business circle is campaigning to urge their congress to grant permanent normal trade relation (PNTR) to Vietnam. In addition, she also mentions some economic events which will be discussed during the visit of US President Bush to Vietnam and some issues which are the concerns of US government and business circle.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciates the interests and contribution of Mrs. Foote and US-Vietnam Commerce Council to the course of relationship normalization and bilateral trade development. He confirms that Vietnamese government as well as people highly appreciates the prestige of the chairperson of US-Vietnam Commerce Council and hopes that Mrs. Foote and US-Vietnam Commerce Council keeps on mobilizing US enterprises and big groups to urge the US Congress to pass PNTR to Vietnam.
