The ceremony had the participation of Mrs. Huynh Thi Nga, vice chairperson of provincial Peoples’ Committee, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuan, Head of Department of Library; representatives of departments, agencies and staffs and leaders of Library sector in Dongnai province .
Library system of Dongnai province was established in 1976, one year after the country’s unification, with 11,105 books donated by Ha Nam Ninh province. Over 30 years, with its great efforts to overcome difficulties, Dongnai province library has been quickly developed. Presently, the system has 593 libraries consisting of one province-level library; 9 libraries of district, city and Dongnai Rubber Company; 129 reading-rooms and cultural-post-office centers in commune; 1 library of Children Culture House and 456 school libraries. Besides, there are hundreds of libraries and reading-rooms of enterprises, offices and factories in the whole province with the total amount of 6,611,319 books. Every year, all libraries supplement their libraries with good books, valuable documents from many different supply sources and they also pay much attention to enhance the quality of their services.
To supply books, newspapers and information to people living in mountainous and remote area, staffs and leaders of library system have developed a network of cultural post office centers. Presently, there are 99 centers in communes of the province. These centers have contributed to bring cultural, scientific knowledge to remote and mountainous communes in the province so as to enhance intellectual knowledge of the masses as well as to speed up the course of modernizing and industrializing agriculture and rural area.
To keep pace with the development of society and information boom and to quickly bring latest news and information to the masses, Dongnai province library has applied information technology advances in its services by launching an internet room and starting to develop e-library system in 2005. Its local network has 100 computers connecting with libraries in districts, city and town in the province. Through this e-library network, libraries at grassroots level can access to other libraries in the system, in the country as well as in other countries in the world.
Over 30 years of development, the Dongnai library system has greatly contributed to popularize and propagandize policies, strategies of Party and Government as well as to provide scientific, technological documents to peoples from all walks of life. This contributes to enhance the intellectual knowledge of people living in remote and mountainous areas.
