On May 17th, Agriculture and Rural Development Department (ARD) held the review conference on main plants and livestock development program in Dong Nai province for the period of 2006 - 2010.
According to the Department, within 5 years: 2006-2010, the program contributed capital to plant more than 578 ha of new trees and to more than 1.180 ha of intensive agriculture. As a result, those areas receiving support of the program have increased revenue from 10-200 million/ha/year. Besides, the program contributed to the foundation of some specialized areas such as: mango, pepper, coffee, durian, pomelo…with high capacity and yield rate. Some new technologies have been applied by farmers, which has resulted in the increase of productivity 30%-80%. Breeding business has also moved from separate to mass production. Currently the inter-province breeding farms for pig take up 60% of the national total, breeding farms for chicken take up 84% of the total number nationally. Most of the mass production farms are applying highly advanced technologies to improve meat quality and reduce environmental pollution. However, during the meeting, many participants suggested that the procedures should be simplified for those having the wish to take part in, at the same time increased the loan for them to invest in production.
According to the plan, during the period of 2011 - 2015, the program will provide farmers with aid to replant 5 different main seeds in the area of 1.250 ha and 683 ha of intensive agriculture. Total budget for this program reaches nearly 970 billion VND, of which local budget takes 250 billion, farmers’ budget takes 720 billion VND. In the meeting, vice president of the provincial people's committee Tran Van Vinh recommended that when applying this program, local authorities should pay close attention to choosing the breeds, as the budget amount has been poured out significantly, they should also have plans for effective investment.
