Three years ago, Mr. Cao Xuan Lam confidently converted from breeding cows to fattening cows.

Mr. Lam said that he started raising cows in 2011. Previously, his family only raised 2 to 4 cows each year. Each cow only gives birth once a year, then raises more calves for about 6 more months to sell, earning about VND50 million per year.

3 years ago, after visiting and learning from many farmers in the area, realizing that fattening cows is easy to achieve results and brings higher economic efficiency, Mr. Lam decided to invest in barns and buy 200 cows, thin cows in Phan Rang, Ninh Thuan Province brought to the locality for fattening.

Since the scale of cow raising expanded, the demand for labor of Mr. Lam's family has increased, but it is very difficult to hire people to work locally, especially during the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic. With the available experience in mechanics and technology, Mr. Lam has studied the mechanical equipment for agricultural production. After that, he went to buy all kinds of equipment to make a multi-function machine by himself.

From an ordinary plow, Mr. Lam added an excavator, flipping in front of the machine to shovel, mix feed for cows, clean cow dung, and clean barns. At the same time, install a large chopper at the back of the plow to chop agricultural by-products such as: cassava, sugar cane, corn to make the cow food.

Talking about the efficiency of the multifunction machine, Mr. Lam said that with the previous method, his family had to spend a lot of labor to transport tons of corn, cassava and sugarcane from the field to home. Then manually chop these by-products, rarely using the chopper because the electricity in the area where his family lives is quite weak, the chopper does not work continuously. After chopping all the agricultural by-products, more workers are needed to transport the minced feed to the cowshed to feed the cows, which takes a lot of time and effort but the efficiency is not high.

Since having a multi-purpose machine, after harvesting agricultural products, Mr. Lam moves the machine to the field, chopping waste products right in the field. The chopper works like a threshing machine, just one person standing below puts the corn and wheat into the machine, the machine will chop it and spit out the shredded waste on the container on the plow. After chopping agricultural by-products, only one person needs to operate the machine to carry food home, bring it to the barn to feed the cows, saving a lot of labor, transportation costs, effort, with the high efficiency.

In addition, this versatile machine also helps Lam's family make full use of agricultural wastes such as corn, cassava, and sugar cane. Thereby reducing the cost of feed for cows. What makes Mr. Lam most satisfied is that the front excavator has a very good cleaning function, making his family significantly save the manpower.

Mr. Cao Xuan Lam confided that before this versatile machine was not available, his family needed 10 workers to feed and care for 200 cows. Since having this machine, only 4 workers can do all the work that needs to be done. Calculating that each month, his family saves about VND50 million in labor costs. Every year, Mr. Lam's family sells 2 times of cows with a total of about 400 cows. After deducting costs, the profit is about VND1.2-1.3 billion.

Recently, Mr. Lam's family has shortened the time for fattening cows from 6 months to more than 4 months, the quality of cows is still guaranteed. Thereby, an additional reduction of nearly 200 million in feed costs per year.

With the effectiveness of applying technology to fattening cattle, in 2021, Mr. Cao Xuan Lam won the first prize at the Competition of Good Farmers in the application of scientific and technical advances to agricultural production in Dong Nai Province in 2021.

Being a good farmer, Mr. Cao Xuan Lam also actively participates in patriotic emulation movements, movement of People Mobilization, and social welfare activities launched by the locality. During the recent outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, Mr. Lam actively mobilized and donated tons of vegetables, fruits and other necessities to support people in the blocked area in Xuan Hoa Commune, Xuan Loc District with a value of about VND100 million.

In April 2022, Mr. Cao Xuan Lam was honored to be awarded by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee the Outstanding Typical Award of Dong Nai Province in 2022; was awarded a Certificate of Merit by Xuan Loc District People's Committee for being a typical individual in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality and style in 2022.
