(News Portal – Dong Nai) - On December 2, in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, Prime Minister Phqm Minh Chinh, Chairman of the Southeast Region Coordination Council, presided over the 5th meeting of the Southeast Region Coordination Council. Attending the meeting were leaders from various central ministries and branches, as well as leaders from the Southeast Region provinces. Representing Dong Nai Province, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc was present at the meeting.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered guidance at the meeting.
The 5th meeting of the Southeast Region Coordination Council was organized under the theme: “Economic growth in double digits for the Southeast Region in 2025: Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions."
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that in 2025, we need to accelerate, break through, and successfully complete the tasks and targets for socio-economic development set for the 2021-2025 term, aiming for a GDP growth of about 8% in 2025, while also reorganizing and streamlining the apparatus, and preparing to organize the Party Congresses at all levels, leading up to the 14th National Party Congress.
According to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, in 2024, the growth rate of GRDP in the Southeast Region is estimated to reach over 6.3%, lower than the national average (the whole country is estimated to reach 6.8-7%), ranking fourth among the six economic regions. The Southeast Region continues to lead the country in both the number of projects and total foreign direct investment implemented up to the end of October 2024.
Current evaluations indicate that the average GRDP growth rate in the region is slowing down, falling below the national average growth rate. The Southeast Region is also facing many difficulties and challenges such as traffic congestion, lack of infrastructure, flooding, and responding to climate change.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc stated that Dong Nai Province has identified four breakthrough tasks for socio-economic development, including mobilizing resources to focus on investing in a synchronous and modern infrastructure system, with an emphasis on urban and rural traffic infrastructure and regional connectivity. Recently, the province has simultaneously implemented transportation infrastructure projects connecting the region and linking to Long Thanh International Airport. The province has also made efforts to deploy synchronized solutions for investing in transportation infrastructure development. However, due to limited resources and the simultaneous implementation of many projects, balancing the budget has posed challenges. Currently, the province is focusing on attracting large investment projects with the hope of significantly contributing to the growth of its GRDP.
Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc expresses his views at the meeting.
In concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised and highly appreciated the efforts of the six provinces and cities in the Southeast Region. He also requested that localities strive for a GRDP growth rate of 7% in 2024. In 2025, the Southeast Region will continue to prioritize growth. The Prime Minister also fundamentally agreed to strive for double-digit growth in 2025.
According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, localities are required to innovate investments, focus on public investment, and mobilize all resources for investment; exports need to accelerate more vigorously; and consumption needs to focus on stimulating demand. At the same time, there should be a focus on developing a green economy, sustainable economy, and global economy. Efforts should be made to train high-quality human resources for emerging industries, and to change and restructure governance to be smarter.
