(News Portal – Dong Nai) - To establish an additional transportation axis connecting to Long Thanh International Airport, meeting development demands and avoiding overload on existing connection routes to the airport in the southern region, Dong Nai Province will invest in the construction of Provincial Road 769E.
Provincial Road 769E is being constructed to provide an additional transportation route connecting to Long Thanh Airport.
Connecting the Northern Area of Long Thanh Airport
Long Thanh Airport is expected to begin operations in its first phase in 2026. Therefore, in addition to accelerating the progress of this project, the central government and Dong Nai Province are simultaneously implementing multiple transportation infrastructure projects to support connections to Long Thanh Airport.
Currently, the transportation projects connecting to Long Thanh Airport include the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway (Phase 1), the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, and the Ring Road 3 of Ho Chi Minh City. Soon, Dong Nai will also implement new construction, upgrades, and expansions for roads such as Provincial Roads 25B, 25C, 769, 773, 770B, and the Nhon Trach inter-port road.
However, most of the transportation routes serving Long Thanh Airport currently focus on the southern area of the airport. Meanwhile, other areas lack transportation projects to connect them. Therefore, to establish additional connection routes to Long Thanh Airport, promote economic and social development, and distribute traffic flow, Dong Nai is proceeding with the necessary procedures to invest in the construction of Provincial Road 769E.
Provincial People's Committee Chairman Vo Tan Duc stated that to prevent traffic overload in the southern area of Long Thanh Airport—affecting routes like the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, National Highway 51, and routes T1 and T2—the Provincial People's Committee has proposed implementing Provincial Road 769E. This new road will connect Long Thanh Airport to the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway, forming a new route connecting to the northern area of Long Thanh Airport.
"According to the road network planning for the 2021-2030 period, Provincial Road 769E aligns with National Highway 20B. The Ministry of Transport has approved the proposal to assign the Provincial People's Committee to implement this project. Currently, the Provincial People's Committee has completed the investment proposal dossier and is undergoing evaluation for submission to the Provincial People's Council for approval at the end-of-2024 session," Chairman Vo Tan Duc shared.
Phased Investment
In August 2024, the Department of Transport, tasked with proposing the project, submitted a report for the evaluation of the investment proposal for the construction of Provincial Road 769E (the section from Long Thanh Airport to Provincial Road 770B).
Deputy Director Nguyen Bon, of the Department of Transport, noted that the construction of Provincial Road 769E aims to gradually complete the transportation infrastructure system as per the province's plan. It will enhance the flow between the Southern Key Economic Region and northern provinces, as well as the Central Highlands. Notably, along with routes T1 and T2, Provincial Road 769E will directly connect to Long Thanh Airport, meeting transportation needs and contributing to the economic and social development of districts along the route and of the province as a whole.
In the proposal for investment evaluation, the Department of Transport stated that under the comprehensive transportation plan for the province to 2020 and orientation to 2030, Provincial Road 769E will begin at the boundary of Long Thanh Airport and end at its intersection with Provincial Road 770B. The total length of the route is over 8km. The project will be divided into two segments for phased construction. The first segment, from the boundary of Long Thanh Airport to the Thủ Thiêm - Long Thanh railway depot, will have a cross-section width of 115 meters. The second segment, from the railway depot to Provincial Road 770B, will have a cross-section width of 95 meters.
However, under the revised plan, the construction of Provincial Road 769E will maintain a total length of nearly 8km. For phased investment in the first stage, the Department of Transport proposed constructing two parallel roads on either side, each 15 meters wide. Additionally, four reinforced concrete bridges will be built along the route, including Suoi Duc, Quan Y 1, Quan Y 2, and Suoi Sau bridges.
According to the department, the total investment for the first phase of the project is over VND 1.4 trillion, including nearly VND 600 billion for land clearance. The project is scheduled to be implemented between 2024 and 2029.
